The Foundation operates as an incubator, providing start-up nonprofit organizations with critical
resources including funding, space in our offices, performance management tools, a network of
professionals, and hands-on assistance from Blue Ridge staff. Our extensive and active support
accelerates the development and achievements of New York City’s most promising new organizations.


Position Overview: Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Portfolio Manager
will help Blue Ridge portfolio organizations manage and overcome strategic and operational challenges
during their 5-7 year partnership with the Foundation. The Portfolio Manager will manage day-to-day
support of portfolio organizations in areas such as fundraising, finance, communications, and overall
performance management. Additionally, the Portfolio Manager will initiate and manage internal and
network-wide initiatives designed to share best practices, promote capacity-building, and contribute to the
organizational effectiveness of Blue Ridge Foundation New York’s portfolio of grantees.

Responsibilities:

    •   Portfolio Support—Engage with the social entrepreneur and management team as a trusted
        advisor; assist with specific projects (strategic planning, fundraising, financial analysis, marketing,
        etc.); respond to and support portfolio organizations as new opportunities and challenges arise;
        facilitate the portfolio organization’s ability to access all Blue Ridge resources and shared
        learning/best practices from other portfolio organizations
    •   Organizational Learning—Contribute to the ongoing improvement of Blue Ridge’s portfolio
        management services and systems; recommend and manage internal initiatives including the
        Resource Bank and speaker series; capture best practices and lessons learned and facilitate
        dissemination and intra-organization sharing
    •   Organizational Leadership—Work collaboratively with the Executive Director to ensure continued
        growth and improvement within the organization through strategic planning and increased
        operational effectiveness.

Qualifications:

    •   At least 5 years of experience in management; specific experience in one or more of the following
        preferred: fundraising, finance, strategy, operations, branding, and communications
    •   Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the mission of Blue Ridge Foundation New York to
        promote equal opportunity and social mobility
    •   Knowledgeable about the theory and practice of venture philanthropy, the New York-based
        nonprofit and social entrepreneurship environment, and the private sector;
    •   Strong analytical skills in order to quickly assess situations, identify trends, develop solutions, and
        apply learnings to the larger context
    •   Self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in an entrepreneurial environment
    •   Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent Blue Ridge and
        portfolio organizations in a professional, engaging, and dynamic manner
    •   Collaborative team player who is flexible, resourceful, creative, and willing to work nontraditional
        work hours as needed to support portfolio organizations with evening events and deadlines
    •   Strong computer skills, with a high degree of proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
    •   Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degree in an analytical discipline
        strongly preferred
