					                 Reducing Adverbial Clauses

You can often simplify clauses beginning with before, after, while, when, or
since by omitting the subject and changing the verb to -ing.

Note: This can only be done if the subject of the dependent clause and the
independent clause are the same.

Examples

a Before you call the office, check the number.
  Before calling the office, check the number.

b After you wash the fruit carefully, put it in boxes.
  After washing the fruit carefully, put it in boxes.

c When you fill out the form, make sure to give all the information requested.
  When filling out the form, make sure to give all the information requested.
