                                              CLASS SPECIFICATION FOR
                                  Personal Property Tax Auditor II
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Performs the more difficult field and office duties in connection with the
assessment of personal property, the filing and auditing of personal property tax returns and State income tax
returns; does related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is specialized work demonstrating some technical
knowledge, sound judgment and utilization of comprehensive knowledge of all pertinent laws, regulations and
requirements. The incumbent is able to handle unusual and complex problems, acting without direct supervision
and handling taxpayers tactfully and diplomatically. Discretion is demonstrated in performance of duties and
administration of the programs of the department. Receives general supervision from a Personal Property Tax
Auditor Supervisor.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (illustrative only):

— Explains requirements for compliance with the laws to taxpayers and assists them in filling out returns;
— Makes statutory assessments of personal property for tax purposes as required;
— Assists the general public with difficult or unusual problems which involve a careful analysis of the case and a
  full explanation of all requirements;
— Prepares and audits State income returns, contacts taxpayers for additional information when needed, and
  processes the returns according to State instructions;
— Makes decisions on the more complex returns;
— Audits and screens personal property returns (both business and personal), performing the necessary
  preparation of the returns for computer application and billing;
— Makes error corrections in all areas of computer application;
— Computes the assessment and tax plus penalty and interest (when applicable) and prepares a handwritten
  bill for taxpayers when situation requires it;
— Handles correspondence dealing with more complex problems and questions of tax liability;
— Trains subordinate auditors;
— Performs related work as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of general laws and administrative policies
governing State income and personal property taxes; knowledge of the geography of the County; good math and
computational skills; ability to deal diplomatically with the public; ability to assess personal property and audit
State income tax returns; ability to plan and organize work; accuracy; good judgment; tact and courtesy.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a bachelor's degree in business administration or a
related field and one (1) year of tax auditing work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and
training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
