“FREE” Senior Services are available through Project C.A.R.E. (Community Action to Reach the Elderly). If you
live alone or just want that additional sense of security, the following free services are offered as a “safety net.”
Vial of Life, Postal Alert, Home Safety Check, You Are Not Alone, and the “Are You Okay” program of
computerized phone calls Monday through Friday. For a brochure with detailed information, call the Encinitas
Senior Center Project C.A.R.E office at 760-943-2255.

                                          TAX ASSISTANCE
Qualified volunteers will be available, by appointment only, if you need assistance in preparing your State and

                  BUICK INVITATIONAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
Get your 2007 Buick Invitational tickets here at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center. Tickets are valid
any day of the tournament for only $15 each. The golf tournament is held at the Torrey Pines Golf Course from
Tuesday, January 23rd through Sunday, January 28th. Support the Encinitas Senior Center and enjoy watching
golf professionals compete in beautiful La Jolla. 100% of the proceeds support the Encinitas Senior Center.

DIABETES PREVENTION AND HEART DISEASE TREATMENT
Friday, January 12, 2007 from 12:30PM to 2:00PM; Dr. Franklin Zalman, from the Cardiovascular Disease
Foundation, will present information on the prevention, diagnosis and modern treatment of diabetes, heart

 Chocolate Candy Making
 This hands-on candy making class will introduce students to melting chocolate by microwave oven and
 to the basic fundamentals of chocolate dipping. Participants will make a “take home” box of a variety
 of candy such as chocolate dipped peanut clusters and dried fruit.
 The instructor, Mark Jacobson, developed a love for making candy in the late 1970’s when he owned
 and operated a candy store across from the Hotel Del Coronado.

 Yoga for Self-Healing and Joy
 Introducing Susie Behr, our new Senior Center Yoga Instructor. Susie will be joining our Center in
 January 2007, teaching 11:00-12:00AM on Mondays, and 8:30-9:30AM on Tuesdays. Susie has 11
 years experience as a Yoga Teacher and Yoga therapist, and she creates a safe, supportive
 environment where both beginning and more experienced students can share in the joy and self-
 healing of yoga. Whether you’ve taken yoga before, or have always wanted to, we hope you’ll join Susie
 for yoga in January.
