                           BABA PINCUSHION
This pattern makes a rustic little Ukrainian “baba”
(grandmother) which you can use as a pincushion.

MATERIALS:
assorted calico and wool fabric scraps
polyester fiberfill
black & rust-colored embroidery floss
small bead for nose
pink marking pen

FINISHED SIZE: 4” tall.

DIRECTIONS:

For pincushion base, cut a 9” diameter circle from
fabric and machine-baste 1” from edge. Gather the fabric into a ball and stuff with
fiberfill; stitch opening closed, trimming excess.

For torso, cut a 4 3/4” diameter circle from wool fabric and machine baste 3/4” from
edge. Gather, stuff and stitch the opening as for the base. Stitch torso to the skirt with
gathered ends facing.

Cut a 2” x 10” piece of fabric for the waist ruffle and stitch rolled hems in the long
edges. Machine baste 3’4” from one long edge and sew the two ends together.
