Ltd. pinpoints Web Administration Guide Introduction Location Based Services (LBS) are starting to permeate general society, with sites such as Foursquare,Gowalla and Brightkite gaining in popularity all the time. Traditionally, compa- nies have used a 'pull' model to locate employees ("Has anybody seen Bob?"). As LBS are becoming more ubiquitous with the ever-increasing number of GPS-enabled and location aware mobile phones, their capability can be leveraged to move towards a 'push'-centric model for employee location and communication. pinpoints is a new Software as a Service (SaaS) offering that will help company employ- ees stay connected and in touch by allowing them to easily use LBS to keep colleagues informed with a minimum of fuss. About the Web application The pinpoints web application is available at www.pinpoints.us. Concepts pinpoints uses the following basic concepts. Availability Your availability is selected from a standard list and is a simple way of communicating status. Location A Location is tied to an address and map coordinates (latitude and longitude). It also has a name which allows you to have many “locations” in one place. e.g. Meeting Room 1, Meeting Room 2, etc. Message pinpoints allows you to communicate with coworkers using standard microblogging func- tionality.
