  Know Your Midwife Program (KYM)
                            Registered Midwife

Applications are invited from midwives to join West Gippsland Healthcare Group’s (WGHG)
innovative team providing the Continuity of Care Program (KYM). The successful applicant will
be one of a team of midwives involved in the program and employed for 20 hours per week in this
position. Classification will be at Grade 2 or Grade 3, dependent on your current classification.
Additional relief shifts are available in Midwifery if you wish.


The Department
The Midwifery Unit of WGHG, as a family centred contemporary facility, is dedicated to serving the
needs of the community whilst always striving for excellence. The health care professionals of this
unit respects the values, beliefs and rights of the individual and are committed to competent,
compassionate care to all those we attend. The maternity unit is a state/national leader with high
VBAC rate and low caesarean section rate. There is a strong team culture with excellent inter-
professional networks and communication.

The Organisation
West Gippsland Healthcare Group (WGHG) includes a 77 bed acute hospital located in Warragul.
We recently won the Premiers Award for Regional Health Service of the Year in the 2009
Victorian Public Healthcare Awards. We were awarded a further ACHS Accreditation with an
Outstanding Achievement rating for Continuous Improvement in 2007.

The KYM Program
         WGHG is a state leader in Victorian Maternity Performance Indicators including VBAC
          and low caesarean section rate.
         Our Program is part of the Rural Maternity Initiative and includes low risk women and a
          program for women with special needs including VBAC
         As one of the team midwives you will provide antenatal, intrapartum, postnatal and
          domiciliary care to participating clients

The Requirements
           Flexibility in availability and rostering
           Ability to work on call
           Well developed clinical midwifery and interpersonal skills
           Demonstrated skills in communication, time management and problem solving
           IV cannulation or willingness to complete
           Perineal suturing capacity or willingness to complete
           Completion of the ALSO course or willingness to complete
           Commitment to Continuing Professional Development
