1.0               DESCRIPTION

In AWT Perth Office, the Project Cost Controller role will act as a primary focus for project
cost estimating, tracking and analysis. Cost control is a centralized function at AWT within
the Project Services Group and the position resides in this group.


1.1               QUALIFICATIONS
                  Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and/or
                   equivalent experience in the engineering/oil and gas industry.
1.2               EXPERIENCE
                  Experience in a cost control role is essential.
1.3               COMPETENCIES
1.3.1             Technical
                  Demonstrated well developed skills in MS Office Suite in order to create well
                   structured documents, spreadsheets, presentations, proposals and other
                   documents.
                  Demonstrated skills in prioritization and time management to ensure that the
                   project reports are timely compiled and workload is managed effectively within
                   agreed timeframes and deadlines.
                  Demonstrated high level of analytical skills in order to perform analyses of project
                   costs.
                  Demonstrated high level of coordination skills in order to gather cost data from
                   project leaders, accounts and others.
                  Demonstrated problem solving skills, approaching problems and issues with well-
                   thought out and creative solutions and using initiative to review contingencies.
                  Demonstrated well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, both
                   written and verbal, including the confidence and ability to present information
                   effectively to any audience.

2.0               PURPOSE
The role exists to primarily perform cost estimating, tracking, analyses and reporting. The
Project Cost Controller is envisaged to eventually become a focal point and custodian of all
current and historical cost related information.
This is a Perth based role that supports all company-wide projects managed through the
Head Office in Perth as well as other worldwide operating regions.


3.0               SCOPE

and processes, in order to enhance business efficiency.
A high demand is placed on the incumbent to adhere to the organisation’s human resources

3.2               KEY RESULT AREAS (KRA’s), KEY TASKS
This position description contains the key tasks and result areas for this position. The list of
key tasks is not intended to be complete. Other tasks may be added to meet the needs of
the business.
                  Develop Generic Projects Cost Structure and Cost Account Codes Directory
                   under Standard Work Breakdown Structures for various generic project types.
                  Prepare project cost estimate of resources and other expenses through
                   discussions with functional leaders in a timely manner using generic cost
                   structure, which is suitable for cost tracking in the project life cycle.
                  Prepare ‘Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled’ (or Spent Profile), discuss and
                   agree with the functional leaders.
                  Assist Project Planner in entering the cost estimate in the project plans in
                   Primavera or other Project Management tools, as required.
                  Record/extract Committed/Spent Cost to-date for Direct Costs for:
                       o     Resource cost from Primavera or other timesheet systems.
                       o     Other direct project costs such as consultancy work, software, travel,
                             meals etc. by receiving copies of Purchase Orders or Expense Claim
                             Forms.
                  Liaise with Accounts Department to charge company’s overheads (indirect costs)
                   according to company’s overhead allocation system/procedures.
                  Generate weekly and monthly cost reports in tabular and graphical formats for
                   each project in Primavera or other tools, including but not limited to ‘Earned
                   Value Report’, ‘Plan Spent versus Actual Spent’ etc.
                  Revise project cost estimate at the end of every reporting period to generate
                   ‘Forecast At Completion’.
                  Facilitate and provide information to Accounts Department for accrued invoices
                   at required frequency or predetermined project payment milestones so the
                   invoices can be issued to the clients and maintain Invoice Register.
                  Perform cost analysis and advise project leaders on cost over-runs in a timely
                   manner so the corrective actions can be taken.
                  At the time of project completion, record cost information in project database
                   (Primavera’s Methodology Manager or any other tool, as required) using
                   standard cost structure and utilise this cost database for future project cost
                   estimation.
                  Maintain electronic and hard copy filing for project cost reports and other cost
                   related documents.

                  Assist in preparing cost estimation, tracking and control procedure and
                   continuously look at the ways of improving processes and revise procedure
                   accordingly.
Any other duties that may arise from time to time which fall within the parameters of this role,
for which the incumbent has the necessary skills and competences.


4.0               QUALITY ASSURANCE
This position description contains the performance indicators associated with the above key
tasks as listed below. Performance Indicators will be assessed regularly to ensure quality
assurance for the function as well as to assess performance for the role.
