Introduction

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is implementing a project on Promotion of
indigenous peoples’ rights in the constitution-making and state-reform process in Nepal –
NEP/08/02M/MUL to contribute to the development of inclusive democracy, social justice and
equality in Nepal. The project is based on the promotion of ILO Convention No. 169 on
Indigenous and Tribal Peoples’ rights, which the Government of Nepal ratified on the 14th of
September, 2007. The project is running for 18 months starting in August 2008. ILO wishes to
recruit a Driver based at the ILO office in Kathmandu.

Guidance and supervision
The position of driver is based in the Project Office in Kathmandu and will work under the
overall management and responsibility of Director, ILO Office in Nepal and under the
supervision of the PRO 169 Project Coordinator and the PRO 169 Advisor.

A.      Description of duties

1.      Drive office vehicles for official purposes.

2.      Meet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.

3.      Collect and deliver mail, pouch, documents and other items.

4.      Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, check oil, water,
        battery, brakes, tires, etc., perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs, and
        ensure that the vehicle is kept clean.

5.      Keep records of use of vehicle, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing
        and other services.

6.      Ensure that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement
        in accident.

7.      Perform miscellaneous office support functions such as messenger services and making
        photocopies.

8.      Perform other related duties as required.
B.      Qualification requirements

Education                Primary education, valid driver’s licence, knowledge of driving rules and
                         regulations and skills in minor vehicle repairs.

Experience               Two years’ work experience as a driver, preferably with UN agencies.
                         plus safe driving record,

Languages                Good knowledge of the Nepali language, and ability to communicate in
                         English an advantage

Competencies             Proven ability to keep accurate records of the use of vehicle. Proven
                         ability to drive safely in local traffic conditions. Ability to follow
                         instructions. Ability to undertake minor vehicle repair. Ability to work in a
                         polite, courteous and cooperative manner.
