                       Asia Netcom Powers Asiakomnet’s
                              Services Expansion
Indonesian Competitive Carrier selects Asia Netcom’s connectivity solution to
build Asia and US presence
SINGAPORE, 16 February 2006 – Asia Netcom, a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Netcom
(NYSE:CN, SEHK:0906) has been selected by Indonesian competitive carrier, Asiakomnet, to provide
an extensive network connectivity between Singapore and strategic markets in North Asia as well as
the US.

Under the agreement, Asia Netcom will supply high-performance leased capacity to Asiakomnet
between Singapore, North Asia and the US. The deal is part of Asiakomnet’s plan to upgrade its
existing service network and to expand its service offerings beyond South Asia.

This tie-up is expected to not only strengthen Asiakomnet’s competitive edge but also raise its profile
in the US. “We want to increase our presence beyond South Asia. Asia Netcom’s network presents
an ideal platform that allows us to expand into new markets beyond Asia. We remain firmly committed
to delivering high-performance connectivity to our clients, and in linking them to the rest of the world,”
said Allen Widjaja, Asiakomnet’s Director.

“We operate the region’s first privately-owned cable system, and we can provide fully diversified
routing to all key markets in the region,” added Chris Van Zinnicq Bergmann, Asia Netcom’s Director
of Sales for South East Asia and India. “In addition, our network is protected by multiple layers of
redundancy, giving our carrier partners a distinct competitive advantage when servicing the
increasingly stringent requirements of end-users.”

The new Asiakomnet infrastructure will ride over Asia Netcom’s EAC system, a 19,500 km pan-Asia
sub-sea network featuring multiple layers of protection, including Ring and Span switching, and highly
secured, independent Cable Landing Stations.
