Sergei Riasantsev The migration and migration policy in the
Northern Caucasus
The article is about the main trends of migration processes in Northern
Caucasus and directions of social policy towards the migrants. The author
analyses factors of migration after the breakdown of USSR, taking into
account main tendencies as well as regional differentiation of current
migration picture. A special attention is devoted to an issue of forced
migration in Northern Caucasus. The conceptual bases of migration policy
are formulated.

«periphery» in 1990-2000th in political and juridical discourses
(Krasnodar kray materials)
The article traces the intercourses of political and juridical discourses
by the «liberal» Federal Center and a «protective» Region - Krasnodar
Krai (Russia) - on migration issues in 1990-2000, interpreting them in
terms of different security conceptions. It is argued that discriminated two
levels of discourses - legislative rhetoric and executive practice - which
tended to be autonomous in 1990s, have been getting conflated in 2000s.

Bjorn Gustaffsson Swedens Recent Experience of International
Migration - Issues and Studies
The article analyses Swedish migration policy concentrating on
questions of the labour market situation among immigrants and discusses
current economic research on this issue. The author describes the flows of
immigrants to Sweden and the composition of the immigrant population
at the end of the 90s and the changed labour market situation of various
groups. A special emphasis is made on social integration of migrants

coming from the countries outside Scandinavia.
Victoria Antonova Is Great Britain doomed to multiculturalism or
multiculturalism in Great Britain is doomed?
The article presents an attempt to show how the unity and extremes
of multiculturalism in Great Britain meet the aim of developing cohesive
and tolerant multicultural society. The analysis deals with the up-to-date
discussion on multicultural issues both in academia and media. Several
statistical and research sources on ethnic relations are also the matter of
the present article concern. The preliminary conclusions are presented
regarding the suggestion on how the British multiculturalism as a model
of Britains social policy in contrast to the United States of America
«melting pot» can match the idea of «e pluribus unum» society.
Basia Spalek British Muslim communities and criminal justice
policy
This article analyses the issues of criminal justice in United Kingdom
in relation to the research of Muslim communities. The author considers
different aspects of criminal law, policy of prison and services for crime
victims. She demonstrates that practices of justice that are formed within
the system where Christianity takes the lead, have negative effect on those
citizens who were socialized in Muslim culture. In particular, the article
considers the changes of attitudes towards the Muslim population in Great
Britain after the events of 11.09.2001.

sociological research. The paper considers interrelations of sociology and
social administration, it discusses issues of methodology, epistemology of
social science and of professional status of a scholar.
Nikholay Krukov The revival of public and private philanthropy in
the regions
The paper considers some trends and problems in the development of
charity in Russian regions and in particular in Saratov oblast. The author
analyses barriers on the way of formation of real social partnership, related
to the deficit of relevant legal base, that is necessary for the growth of
charity in todays Russia.
