I like to think of this celebration as a kick-off to a special time of year. Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and the begin- ning of Advent follows closely on its heels. It is a time to be thankful, to reflect on our faith, and to prepare for the coming of Christ. Let us enjoy this time with friends, parents, students and alumni, working together to strengthen the tools of Catholic education for our children. We hope you enjoy browsing through the auction items, bidding on gifts, and settling down to dinner with entertainment and conversation. I want to thank Mr. & Mrs. Aiello for stepping forward to chair the event this year and recognize their family for the four generations of service they have given to the Catholic schools. I realize this event is considerable work for them and the committee of dedicated people who make this evening possible. I thank as well our sponsors and all those who have made donations for the auction. The gratitude and prayers of the school certainly are with them. Some of you have been involved with the Seton-La Salle community since the days when it was South or Seton. Most of you have been support- ers of Catholic education in the South Hills for years. Catholic schools play a vital role in spreading the gospel, both by continuing the Catholic educa- tion parents have begun at home and/or by preparing our graduates to carry on the faith. Without your support Seton-La Salle would not be the vibrant, flourishing school that exists today, built on the traditions of Seton and South and in the spirit of Elizabeth Seton and John Baptist de la Salle. Without you, we would not be moving forward with many of our goals to continue to provide quality, relevant, faith-filled education. Please enjoy yourself tonight. Then remember to come back next year for the 16th Auction! We need you. Whether it is your first gala or you have been here many times before, please know that your presence adds to the evening and supports the mission of Seton-La Salle Catholic High School. In the last year, the Board of Directors at Seton-La Salle has worked with the administration to make advances in key areas. The post of School President was created, and the Business Manager was made a full-time capacity. When these positions are filled in the near future, the oversight of operations will improve, leading to a more efficient and productive use of every tuition dollar and donation. In conjunction with the Director of Admissions, the Board and Principal completely revamped the Admissions program to reach more potential students and tell them the story of Seton- La Salle more convincingly. Preparations for the Middle States Accreditation process were coordinated with the faculty, and it is expected that the school will be granted accreditation for another seven years. As we look to the future, we recognize the challenging times ahead. It is vital that we work together to make a faith-filled education a priority for more parents and students. In the end, we are convinced that a Christian secondary education is essential to the long term success, happiness, and well-being of today’s young adults. Working with you, we will preserve and strengthen the Seton-La Salle Catholic High School experience for future generations. If you have any thoughts on the school, please share them with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you again for attending this year’s Green & Gold Gala! Your support and the support of the larger Seton-La Salle community of alumni, parents, faculty, and students are what make our school the special place that it is! Sincerely, Kevin A. Ask anyone who attended South Hills Catholic or Seton-La Salle in the 60’s through the 80’s and you’ll hear stories of Ted’s work in the auditorium, classroom and halls of SLS. From mem- orization of Shakespearean sonnets to memorable stage performances, Ted touched many lives. When he passed away, Ted left a portion of his estate to SLS including some collectibles listed here—items given to him by former students following shows and other events. Ted White once said, “It is important for the future of Seton-La Salle High School that we never lose contact with our graduates. Our reputation as an outstanding educational institution travels the earth with you. Our future, therefore, is directly affected by the success of those men and women who have worn the Green & Gold.” Thank you for being here tonight and Theodore “Ted” White helping to continue this legacy. 1937 - 2009 Silent Auction Holidays & Homes - 200s continued 284 Santa at the Piano From the estate of Ted White Value: $ 55 285 Santa & His Helper Designed from the 1930 Saturday Evening Post cover. Service to the high school is also con- sidered. The winners are selected by a committee composed of alumni from the three schools and selections are made from nominations received throughout a two-year period. The first awards were presented in 1991. At that time, John T. Cicco was also honored with a special award, for although he was not an alumni, he had been devoted to the school and was a lifelong advocate of Catholic education. The John T. Cicco Lifetime Achievement Award was created in his name and is now given biennially. The next awards will be held in January 2011. Nominations are now being accepted. Each item on the Silent Auction has a bid sheet displayed nearby. Anyone with a bidding number (see your program) who desires to bid may do so by writing his or her name and assigned bid number on the bid sheet. 2. You may write your bid number on the next available line until the page is full. If you want to ensure that you win the item for which you are placing a bid, write your bid number at the bottom of the sheet in the box marked “Guaranteed Bid.” Once that box is filled in, the item is automatically closed, and that bidder will be recorded as the winner of the item. Note that some items do not offer a guaranteed bid and may have a second sheet attached. These items will only be awarded to the highest bidder at the closing of the auction. 3. Values set forth on items being auctioned are donors’ estimates and are not warranted by the Auction committee for tax purposes or for general value. All sales are final. There will be no exchanges or refunds unless previously specified. 4. Silent Auction tables open at 6:15 p.m. and close at the various times printed in the catalog and announced during the evening. 5. The closing bid circled by the auction official is the winning bid. In the event of a dispute, the auction official is the final authority in determining the winning bidder. 6. Unless otherwise specified, all auction items and services must be used within one year from the date of the Auction. 7. Auction bid sheets may be removed only by the Table Captains. ITEMS MAY BE REMOVED ONLY BY SIGNING THE YELLOW COPY OF THE BID SHEET AND EXHIBITING YOUR AUTO-PAY IDENTIFICATION OR YOUR CASHIER’S RECEIPT AT THE TIME OF DEPARTURE. CASH ~ CHECK ~ VISA ~ MASTERCARD NOTE DISCOVER ~ AMEX ~ DINER’S CLUB Any items that receive no bids this evening will become part of an on-line auction at the Seton-La Salle Website in December if the donor has not objected to doing so. In 1979, when the merger of the two schools became necessary, the transition, though extensive, was made eas- ier because spiritual growth and academic excellence were the primary focus at both schools. Today, as Seton-La Salle begins its 30th year, the school continues the tradition of excellence established by the two predecessor schools and holds a widely recognized reputation as a strong Christian community with the highest quality academic, athletic and extracurricular programs. Accredited by the Middle States Association, Seton-La Salle is dedi- cated to the development of each student as a unique creation of God and a gift to the world. In keeping with the school motto, “In Faith and Charity,” the Seton-La Salle community recognizes that the religious dimension of its programs is integral to who we are and what we do. Seton-La Salle strives to help students develop into respectful, responsible adults, whose deci- sions will always be rooted in the highest ethical standards. Students are given the tools to critically analyze the world from a Christian perspective, and are educated for the challenges of a changing world.
