Hong Kong Island Stingrays Stingray News Weekly Update: August 10th 2009 Training This Week – 1 Last Week of Summer Program (Monday 10th August – Friday 14th August) Team – Tue / Wed / Thu HKIS Repulse bay Campus Team+ - As above + 4-6pm on Monday and Friday at Aberdeen, 5.30 – 7am at Wanchai Pool Stingrays Fall Session August – December Registration Dear Stingray Families, I trust you have all been enjoying a wonderful 8 weeks of summer holidays and are now eager to get back into the swing of things once Stingrays resumes over the coming weeks. Full details of the teams schedule and registration requirements are accompanied with this week’s newsletter. Tags, Tag Nationals and Tag Internationals start on Monday 17th August from 3.30pm – 6pm and will swim each day until Friday 21st at the same time each afternoon. There will also be training on Saturday 22nd August in the morning before try outs, from 10.30am – 12.30pm. Further details will be sent separately to the three groups concerned. Junior A & B and Stinger A & B will commence on Monday 24th August with the schedule attached. Please find attached the new registration form and note that registrations are to be submitted by Wednesday 19th August. Any late registration will incur a $500 late registration fee. Those swimmers that are attending a school other than HKIS must pay the additional $500 Non-HKIS Levy. Checks should be made payable to: Hong Kong Island Stingrays Swim Club. Please return registrations with payment by post to Mary Lamb, 97 Cedar Drive Redhill Peninsula, Tai Tam or leave in Coach Simon’s Family Folder at the pool. Swimmers cannot participate in practice unless they are fully signed up with all forms submitted. PANASONIC FINA Marathon Swimming World Cup – Hong Kong 2009 / 3rd Asian Open Water Swimming Championships & 11th Hong Kong Open Water Swimming Competition – Volunteers required On Sunday 4th October, there is a combined 3-event Sea Swim Competition which caters for all level of swimmer from Junior to Advanced. The shortest races are 600m and run by age groups and the longest is part of the FINA World Cup Open Water Swimming leg, which is 3.5km in length. This event is widely attended by Stingray swimmers each year and we would love to attract more participants this coming October. There are opportunities to play games and win prizes on the beach also as the HKASA put on a variety of activities and events to make this a real family day out. Volunteering: Registering will start at 7.30am Repulse Bay Beach, Duty Time – 09.00 – 14.00 The Stingrays team will be volunteering parents for this event again to help us gain more points in our annual Club Points assessment. The volunteering role allows parents to interact with many of the World’s top Pool and Open water swimmers and is a great social event. We will need at least 8 volunteers and intentions of duty should be submitted to me at email@example.com by Wednesday 19th August. Try Outs – Saturday 22nd August, HKIS Tai Tam Pool, 12.45 – 1.45pm On Saturday 22nd August, Stingrays will be holding its try outs for potential new members to the team. If you have a sibling that is an existing member of the Saturday Sharks program, please liaise with Coach Ann (Annwong21@gmail.com) on your child’s suitability for attending these try outs (NB. Swimmers from this program are usually notified in advance of moving up to the Stinger B level of Stingrays). All swimmers wishing to try-out should come along to the Tai Tam pool at 12.45pm to sign in on pool deck and provide family details. We will then provide a brief introduction to our program and then separate the kids by age and gender. Please ensure all swimmers bring with them: 1. Swim Goggles 2. Swim Suit 3. Towel 4. Smile The emphasis is on technique and not speed. That will come at a later point in the program. We will test the swimmers over 100m of free, 50m back, 50m brst, and demonstration of a competent racing dive. We will also entertain an attempt at 25m fly if they are happy to try this! We look forward to seeing you on pool deck. To secure the spaces for your children, please let us know your wish to join the 2009-2010 Session 1 with HKD 200 reservation fee in the coming 2 Saturdays when you come to the pool. The reservation fee is redeemable for Session 1 (7 lessons at HKD 1,400). No refund will be given to swimmers who do not show up in Session 1. We will release the reserved spaces for new swimmers after 2 lessons. Thank you.
