The amazing history of the castle goes back to the 13th century. Its current sad condition is the result of the eviction of the Sudeten German inhabitants after the Second World War and of the communist neglect (the castle was purposely set on fire several times). Today the castle is being gradually reconstructed. After finishing those works the main hall of the castle should serve as the seat of an international environmental institute. The castle is surrounded by a forest and overlooks a fairytale-like valley. Work: The participants will perform two different kinds of work: Firstly you will prepare the areal for the season and help with the reconstruction of the castle. Secondly, you will help with the preparations of some events like the Hartenberg Summer of Culture, an environmental conference and the "Hartenberg Training" an educational event for regional primary schools. Accommodation: and food The accommodation will be very basic! You will sleep in a house near the castle in one common room. Please take your sleeping bag and a light mat with you. The toilet and showers will be situated in a container. The participants will cook from common resources in a small kitchen. Bring your local recipes. Location & leisure: The castle ruin is situated near the village Hrebeny in western Bohemia, not far from the town Sokolov. You can go hiking in the mountainous countryside, go canoeing, make sport or visit one of the famous spa-towns in the region. Requirements: The living conditions will be very basic, please don?t expect too much comfort. On the other hands it?s the perfect camp for people who like a life in the nature. Don?t forget to bring warm clothes, working boots and rain-gear. Take some games, music instruments, flags, films and other items, which are typical for your regions with you. SDA 301 CAMPHILL COMMUNITY I AGRI/RENO 22/05-05/06 12 vols 18+ Partner: The Camphill Community is situated in the center of a small village, 5 km away from a big town. Camphill Ceske Kopisty is the first and so far only Camphill Community in the Czech Republic. Although it?s been running for some 10 years, it's still in the beginning of its development, therefore the volunteers will have the opportunity to get an insight into a starting project. The community already runs a day center and a resident project for people with special needs. There are 5 residents with special needs and a family living in the community, 5 co-workers spend part of the working week there. There are also 2 therapeutic workshops and an organic vegetable farm, products of which are sold to organic shops. Work: The volunteers will perform two different kinds of manual work. Firstly they will be helping on the organic farm (mainly in the fields). Secondly they will be helping with cleaning and maintaining the areal of the community and assisting in reconstructing different buildings of the center. Occasionally they may be joined by the residents with special needs, who live and work in the community. Accommodation and food: The volunteers will sleep in a big hall on mattresses. One shower in the residential house with hot water will be available. The volunteers will prepare their meals on their own. Bring your local recipes! Study part: Lectures about the Camphill movement and the history of Camphill in the Czech Republic. Requirements: The consumption of alcohol and usage of drugs are strictly forbidden within the community. Smoking is allowed out of the community area. Study part: You will have the chance to meet representatives from Czech non-governmental organizations. Location: The castle ruin is situated near the village Hrebeny in western Bohemia, not far from the town Sokolov. ESTONIA / ESTYES EST 01 SPRING ADVENTURE POLVA 19.04 - 30.04 MANU/ ENVI 8vols Project: This is a special camp for those who love adventures and are ready for unexpected situations, want to do something useful and learn something new, encounter Estonian nature and make new friends. It will take place in the Polva County in the village Polgaste, the area known for its outstanding beauty and well-preserved uncultivated nature. The idea of the camp is to encounter Estonian nature and learn how to live in harmony with it. The volunteers are invited to stay in the old watermill owned by the group of friends, who use this rustic place as an alternative training and a kind of meditation centre. This Adventure Camp will be held in Polgaste for the 6th year. Activity: There will be one approximately 25-30 km one-day-long hike to introduce you the surrounding and svereal shorter ones. The local host will provide you with information about herbs, plants, spring mushrooms of the area and ways people can use it. He will show you how to fish from the river, hike in the forest and surviving in the wild nature. Besides, visits to Polva, excursions to the nearest larger town of Voru as well as trip to the South-West of Estonia - Parnumaa are foreseen. But do not expect formal lectures and exercises. The idea of the camp is learning from each other in easy, relaxing and fun way. Your own contribution of any kind will be appreciated! The exact activities plan will very much depend on weather conditions and compositionand wishes of the group. Work: Beside hiking and adventure volunteers are expected to work approximately 5-6 hours some of the camp days. The work can be quite physical – various construction/ renovation works in the old watermill, building stone fence from boulders, but also seasonal work in the garden as well as collecting and drying herbs and plants. Accommodation: Volunteers will live in the large old watermill, which is quite rustic without any comfort: dry toilet, washing beside the river. Sometimes volunteers can use sauna. Meals will be prepared by volunteers themselves or by local people in the kitchen or on the open fire outside. Meals will be simple. Food will be bought in the market or shop and from local farmers. You have to bring sleeping bag and mat. Location: Polgaste village lies in South-Estonia. Nearest towns are Polva (15 km), Võru (20 km) and Otepaa (27 km). South-Estonia is known above all for is natural richness. You will find picturesque forests and low hills there, varied with rivers, creeks and beautiful lakes, several national parks and reserves. From the architectural side churches, manor houses and ancient castles are certainly worth mentioning. But the greatest richness of South-Estonia is its kind and hospitable people, who despite of all difficulties manage to keep their ways and traditions. You have to be in the good physical shape and be ready for hard work and long hikes. You should be interested in nature and environment protection. Participation fee: Since EstYES does not receive funds to support your participation in the camp neither from the state/ municipality nor from any other sponsors, you are asked to contribute 60 Euro towards the cost of board and lodging, local transport and programme. The fee has to be paid by volunteers upon arrival to the camp. EST 02 KIIDI FARM VORU 16/05 - 29/05 ENVI/ MANU 10 vols Project: The charm of Haanja Uplands in South Estonia lies in its lovely hilly landscape, winding roads and numerous lakes. Most of its ancient villages, special dialect, handicraft, and customs have been preserved until today. The whole area, called Vorumaa, is an area of outstanding beauty. It is famous for its diverse and very well preserved nature. Untouched forests with wildlife, deep valleys, hills, 170 small lakes with extremely clean water, rivers with caves in the steep banks - you can find everything there. With the support of the state and local authorities the eco- and farm sustainable tourism has been developed in this area. Besides promoting the environmental tourism, this initiative supports rural development, which is an important issue for Estonia. Estonian Association of Farm Tourism has launched several projects and Kiidi Farm, where the camp takes place, is one of them. This is one of the oldest EstYES local partners, who had been hosting over 15 camps with EstYES in the previous years. Work: Various works in the forest: cutting unwanted trees and bushes, burning old tree brunches and brushwood, preparing firewood for heating the farm, laying paths for skiing in winter and hikes, possibly some construction works around the farm. Most of the work will be outdoors. Accommodation: In the farmhouse in 2-3-bedded rooms. Sleeping bag is NOT needed. WC, shower, hot water, & sauna are available. Hosts will prepare meals themselves, however volunteers may be asked to help the kitchen. Location: Kiidi Farm is situated 20 km south of Voru, capital of the County. It has a population of 15 000 people and lies about 250 km south-east of Tallinn, very close to the Latvian and Russian borders. The closest village to Kiidi Farm is Rouge (3km) with a population of about 1000 people. Terminal: Airport, harbour, bus or train station in Tallinn; bus to Voru. Special requirements: Volunteers have to be flexible, adventurous and be in the good physical shape. Leisure time: There are many possibilities for leisure time, especially for those who love nature: acquaintance with nature sights in the area, hiking, canoeing, etc. Excursions to the historical sites of the County of Voru are planned as well. It might be possible to go for a short trip to Latvia, which is just 30 km away. Volunteers will have a very good chance to get in close contact with the local people, to experience local traditions and learn some customs like enjoying hot Estonian sauna! FRANCE / CONCORDIA CONCF212 FRONTIGNAN FEST 10/05-30/05 9 vols 18+ Partner The Youth Service of Frontignan calls the volunteers of Concordia for the seventh time. CONCF001 CUBLIZE ENVI/SPORT 04/06-26/06 13 vols 17+ Partner Tarare city mission deals with youth social and professional integration within Amplepluis- Thizy territory. In 2008, this organisation suggested us to build a partnership. With the collaboration of the Youth actors of this place, the city mission aims at allowing young people, often excluded from international mobility plans, to participate in international exchanges by integrating them in Concordia work camps. The local youth realized their integration successfully within the international volunteers groups in 2008 and 2009. We hope these youth interested in open mindedness will join this rewarding and human experience. Most of the Youth actors that guarantee Youth politics are involved in order to make this exchange between young people from neighbouring villages and young international a success. If you like human and social relation and you also have good communication skills, this work camp is made for you, for the 3rd session full of meetings, activities and trainings. Work You will help on the logistic setting up of the 14th triathlon. This event is organised by the "Lac des sapins" tourism centre that welcomes almost 850 competitors from all around France. Before the triathlon, you will help in setting up the stands, marking up the path; during the event you will be in charge of the supply stands; finally after this competition you will remove the stands, and clean up the path. All these missions will allow you to be part of this sport event that will take place on the 20th of June (Sunday). At the same time, you will do some environmental works to re-open some hiking and equestrian paths on the surroundings of the "sapin" lake. Location & Leisure The lake called "Lac des sapins" is located in the middle of a leisure base, in a wonderful wooded place at 440 meters of altitude and at 65km away from Lyon in the North West. CONCF031 BIRON RENO 12/06-03/07 14 vols 18+ Partner Biron is a little village of 178 inhabitants and it is well known for its castle which was built between the 12th and the 18th century and which is classified as historical monument. This exceptional monument, which is visited by more than 10000 tourists every year, belonged to one of the barons of the Perigord region and it is situated in a strategic position at the border between the Perigord and the Agenais region. Its history is linked to the magnificence of the Gontaud-Biron's family who dominated the territory for 800 years. This will be the first Concordia workcamp and its aim is that of restoring part of the heritage and of building some links between the local and international population. It will take place in June in order to avoid the tourist summer period. Work You will restore part of the ancient construction situated next to the castle which is made of a well, a fountain, a wash-house and a pool (this year you will work on the fountain and the wash-house). It consists in a work of traditional masonry. Accommodation And Food tents in a farm near the village. Use of farm's bathrooms. Location & Leisure Kervignac, a little and dynamic town, is situated in Morbihan,some kilometres from Lorient CONCF151 CONDÉ SUR HUISNE ENVI/CONS 11/06-26/06 10 vols 17+ Partner The green way is, in Europe, a way for autonomous communication of pedestrians and riders. These ways are developed respecting the environment, the economic and industrial capital and are often built on ancient railways. Concordia will work on the green way before its opening to the public access. This green way crosses the natural parks of the Normandie-Maine and the Perche region, it winds different heritage buildings like castles and manors and it will be a multi-activities? path covering the 65 km of the ancient railway tracks connecting the villages of Alen and Condeur Huisne. The volunteers will restore the rural heritage that will be visited by a lot of hikers, riders and cyclists! People who love nature, sport and heritage will find here their happiness: a simple happiness in the hearth of an ambitious project. U47A AUZAT 1 14/06-26/06 ARCH 8 vols 18-28 Partner The town of Auzat, situated in a lovely valley in the Pyrenees Mountains, organises archaeological excavations since several years, at the Montr顬-de-Sos castle. It was originally built in the XIIIst century, on a rocky promontory. A mule will help you out carrying the needed material. A number of historical pieces has been found on the site : tools, pottery, coins... You will work with local volunteers from all walks of life as well as people under professional training. Work The person in charge of the archaeological project will guide you. The excavation takes place every day; however you will alternate 1 day of work and 1 day off with half of the group, so as to get some rest. On rainy days (if ever there are some!) you will carry out cleaning of the founded objects. This is a work that is sometimes challenging, but quite exciting if you are fond of archaeology. A number of painted caves as well as castles are worth a visit in the area. RUSSIA / SFERA SFER-01 VALLEY NIZHNY NOVGOROD 02/06-20/06 KIDS/SOC 5/5vols 20-40 Partner The camp has been organized by school 160 of Nizhniy Novgorod since 2002. The main task of the camp is forming social environment when the children will be able to show their talents. Work The volunteers are expected to help in organizing entertaining and educational activities and sport games for the children. Also the volunteers will organize presentation of different cultures and lead team-building games for the groups of the children. The volunteer will have an opportunity to teach Russian children songs and dances from their own countries and try to learn Russian songs and dances together with the children. Accommodation And Food The volunteers will be placed in a school building, bathroom is available. Food will be provided in the canteen. Location & Leisure Nizhniy Novgorod is the fifth biggest city in Russia, 500 kilometers from Moscow. This is a huge city, there are more then 1,5 millions people living here. It was founded in 1221 at the place of fusion of two Great Russian Rivers the Volga and the Oka. From 1932 until 1990 it was named Gorky in honor of Great Russian writer Maxim Gorky. The city has a rich history and more than 600 historical, architectural and cultural sights testify to it. It was inscribed in the list of 100 cities of the world with high cultural and historical profile by UNESKO. The volunteers will be able to make tour of the Nizhniy Novgorod city, to visit Kremlin, museum of the traditional wooden architecture and artistic museum. Also it?s planned to organize a big trip to Bolshoe Boldino or to Diveevo. Bolshoe Boldino is a settlement of 16th century about 230 km away from Nizhniy Novgorod. It's well known because it was one of the favorite places of Great Russian poet Alexandr Pushkin, he wrote many of his famous poetries, tales, and fairy- tales. In the center of the settlement there is a manor which belonged to Pushkin family. Diveevo is a very famous settlement in Nizhniy Novgorod region. There is a Sviato- Troitckii women convent there and 5 Saint Springs around it. The aim of the workcamp is preparation for Kronstadt ecological art festival ?Kronfest?. The aim of the project is to find and to realize new interesting projects uniting art configuration and ecological content another aim is making the youth to understand the importance of ecologic and forming of ecological youth culture under conditions of immediate contact with creative and scientific community representatives. Artists of fine and performance arts from Russia and countries of Baltic region will participate in the festival. Work The festival will take place in ?Summer garden? in Kronstadt and the main task of the work includes the rearrangement of the garden?s territory. The volunteers will clean the garbage, broken branches, and sawed trees, also they will help to run the creative events and actions on the garden territory. They will work 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. The volunteers will be able to offer their own projects concerning decoration of the garden for the festival. Accommodation And Food the participants of the camp will live in a school building/ or in a dormitory/ or aboard a ship, 3-6 persons in a room. Bathroom and a toilet are available. Location & Leisure Kronstadt is a town- tower which was founded at the beginning of the 17th century on Kotlin island in the middle of the Gulf of Finland. From 1720 the city has been a basis of the Baltic fleet. Until 1996 it has been a close city forbidden for visiting of the foreigners. The historical center of the Kronstadt is similar to the center of Saint- Petersburg, the same as Saint- Petersburg Kronstadt is a museum city. Volunteers will be able to make a tour of Kronstadt and Sankt- Petersburg. Also they will participate in festival events. Requirements The volunteers should have a medical insurence. Meeting Point Kronstadt, Martynova street 1/33 camp address Kronstadt, Martynova street 1/33 SFER-03 WORLD of CHILDREN BASHKORTOSTAN REPUBLIC, UFA REGION 07/06-24/06 KIDS 8/8vols 18-26 Partner The camp is organized by the "Bashkortostan voluntary service". Among the activities of the organization there are social help to children with different background, dissemination of the ideas of volunteering on the Russian Federation territory. The workcamp is organizing on the base of a children camp "Agidel" which is located 20 km from Ufa. Work Volunteers will work daily 4-5 hours. There will be different kinds of activities with children. Volunteers will be asked to organize linguistic lessons in an interactive way, to tell the children about healthy life- style, to make the presentations of different cultures, customs and traditions as well as to conduct creative measures such as workshops on vocal, painting etc. Also the volunteers are expected to participate in a social action visiting of a Republic Cardiology sanatorium for children. Location & Leisure The Republic of Bashkortostan is a federal subject of Russia. It is located between the Volga River and the Ural Mountains. Its capital is Ufa. It's possible to make a tour of Ufa, to see the most interesting city sights, to have a trip by a rope- way, to have a row on a motor ship. Meeting Point Ufa train station/ airport camp address Ufa city, Chesnokovka settlement, childrencamp "Agidel" SERBIA / YRS-VSS SR01 TRSIC LOZNICA 24/05-06/06 ENVI 12vols 18+ Partner Trsic is a small village famous as the birth place of Vuk Karadzic, the reformist of Serbian language and orthography. Today it is a place very much visited by tourists. The local partner organization (www.kamp-trsic.org.rs) works on development and improvement of rural and eco tourism. This workcamps goal is to educate local people and motivate them to be active citizens in preserving nature and other values for the sake of generations to come. This is the third year the camp is organized here, as the first two gave great results. Work Volunteers will work on cleaning the woods from garbage, clearing the vegetation, marking the walking paths which are connecting Vuk's house and 5km distant XIV century Tronosa monastery and making wooden benches and tables that would be placed along the path. For its ultimate historical importance for the Serbian language this village has, students of Serbian and other Slavic languages are very welcome, but others interested in the culture or, simply, in environmental protection, are welcome. Accommodation And Food: In a house only 50m away from Vuk's house, built in the same style, in the heart of the ethno village. Volunteers will prepare meals together with the host. Location & Leisure: Trsic is situated close to Loznica in the western part of Serbia.Excursions to important cultural and historical points will be organized, together with visits to museums and one day for getting to know children from the local school and participating in their special event. SR02 BIG GRABOVSKI CACAK 10/06-20/06 ENVI ART 10vols 18+ Partner: More than 50% of inhabitants of Serbia live in villages. In recent years there has been developed a strong movement for rural sustainable development through sustainable tourism in ethno villages representing the traditional Serbian life style. The most important treasure of this village is its unforgettable view over Guca, where the world wide popular trumpet festival occurs in the summer and the mountain peak just few km away. The whole household is made of wood and material from nature and the whole small community is doing their best in preserving the valley and the mountain clean and accessible for nature lovers. They can't wait having you there to make friends and show you their mountain! Work: Work will be about developing the place in two different aspects: marking tracking paths, creating wood steps on steamy ground, benches, etc. As the whole household is very artistic and full of details, volunteers with art skills, painters mainly, are very much welcome to leave their print here, in brakes between hiking and chopping wood with new friends. Accommodation And Food: In the house. Volunteers will cook for themselves in shifts with help and interest of the local people. Location & Leisure: Grab is a small village in the western part of Serbia, about 12km from Cacak, 150 km from Belgrade, and just a stone throw from Guca. Terminal: Belgrade Requirements: Skills and interest in landscape architecture and decoration are welcome. Volunteers should be nature and art lovers. Special remarks: Volunteers will be given a chance to learn about old crafts such as knitting baskets, and will learn about ways of sustainable development. Local volunteers will be involved in the work as well. Participation Fee: 15 euro SR03 LUDAS LAKE SUBOTICA 20/06-03/07 ENVI 15vols 18+ Partner: Lake Ludas, an eolic lake surrounded with marsh, steppe and forest habitats, is famous as an ornithological reserve. It is one of the oldest protected areas in the world and listed as a wetland of international importance (Ramsar Site from 1977). Apart from preserved natural values (bird, fish and wetland plant species), the area boasts rich cultural heritage (archaeological findings, rural and sacral architecture, traditional culture, especially good rural cuisine). The beauty of the landscape and the lake with the tall reed beds represents a special value of the Reserve. This will be the 8th camp we organize here. Work: Volunteers will be included in the project of wet meadows revitalization by removing weed, tree branches and clearing other vegetation. Accommodation And Food: in the Research Station "Ludas". Food will be provided in a local restaurant. Location & Leisure: Lake Ludas is located 12 km from Subotica in the very northern part of Serbia. SR04 LEDINCI NOVI SAD 21/06-01/07 ENVI 10vols 18+ Partner: Ledinci is a 9 centuries old village with its 644 inhabitants, whose ancestors were characterised as bold revolutionists in all past occupations of the country, defending their home, the beautiful region of Srem, immersed in the National park Fruska gora. They are doing their best in keeping the village image bright, but they need help. Volunteers will have the opportunity to learn a lot about the Serbian history and heritage from them, especially the work being: cleaning the old graveyard! Work: Conserving, cleaning and presenting all the values that the village has to present to everyone who likes history and nature! The old local graveyard is covered with big grass and it needs cleaning and planting new plants. Some work will be done in the village centre as well. Accommodation And Food: In families of local volunteers. Location & Leisure: Stari Ledinci is situated on 12km from Novi Sad. Requirements: Volunteers should be prepared for good and quality hiking; there are a lot of beautiful sights to be seen in the Nature park Fruska Gora including a marvellous lake. SR05 ZLAKUSA UZICE 23/06-04/07 ENVI 12vols 18+ Partner: The village Zlakusa finds its place between the beautiful mountains of Zlatibor, Tara, Mokra gora. It is famous for its pottery, 60km of marked hiking paths through stunning nature, rivers rich in salmons, trumpet players and well preserved ethno villages presenting the highest form of rural tourism to its guests. Zlakusa, ranked as the most successful point of rural tourism in Serbia, will host this workcamp for the second time. Work: Volunteers will clean river banks, the entrance to the village and footpaths from garbage. They will mark footpaths and place garbage bins, remove weeds and bushes and plant flowers. They will help in organising the old crafts and folklore festival. Accommodation: in fully equipped houses of the ethno?village. Food would be prepared by the host. Volunteers will have the possibility to cook if they want. Location: Zlakusa is 12km far from Uzice in the western part of Serbia. Special remarks: The workcamp is organized in the same time as the 15th international ceramic pottery colony with many happenings and cultural events. Volunteers have the possibility to participate in a course of traditional pottery and Serbian folk dances, so they might perform in front of the audience! One day would be reserved for raspberry picking and baking delicious homemade volunteer pies!
