                      Motivational program by acclaimed author and coach Mike Robbins

San Jose, CA — January 27, 2010 — Starting the year off with a bang, the Silicon Valley Chapter
of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) swore in a new Board of Directors in
front of an audience of 250 at their January 27th meeting at the beautiful new Oshman Family
Jewish Community Center on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life in Palo Alto. Attendees also
heard author and coach Mike Robbins’ motivational message for 2010.

Immediate Past President Julie O’Loughlin, Fenwick & West LLP, swore in the new Board
consisting of Executive Board members President Ed Novak, CFM, CFM Works; Vice President
Larry Morgan, CFM, RPA, FMA, SMA , SAP Labs, Inc.; Secretary Claudia Folzman, Iron
Construction, Inc.; Treasurer Terry Riecken, CMD Builders, Inc. and Board Directors including
Kevin Klink, Grubb & Ellis; Eric Lee, CFM and Judith Sayler, CPSM, LEED-AP, Marketing Spheres.

President Novak’s remarks highlighted the Board’s 2010 theme to invest in human capital: “IFMA
offers the most cost effective way for facility managers and facilities staff to invest in themselves,
bringing value to their firms and helping members with career advancement.” Novak emphasized
his “3E” chapter goals: Operational Excellence, Exciting Events and Expanded Education.

Vice President Larry Morgan, who teaches the IFMA CFM and FMP credentialing classes noted,
“Traditional colleges do not offer the practical knowledge that IFMA courses and designations
offer. The material IFMA offers is world class and provides great tools to make informed decisions
when it comes to the heart and soul of facilities operations.”

Also introduced were recipients for the 2009 Volunteer Appreciation Awards to recognize
members who have donated their time and energy above and beyond the call of duty:

     The Tom Jones Award is the Chapter’s highest honor to recognize the member who best
     exemplifies continued support and commitment to the Chapter through action, voice and
     heart. Award Recipient Larry Morgan, SAP Labs, is Vice President of the Board and co-chair of
     the Professional Development Committee.

     President’s Award, given at the discretion of the Chapter President for those who have
     demonstrated continued outstanding contributions to the Chapter and, in turn, the
     profession. Award Recipients included members of the President’s Advisory Committee: Bob
     Dills, Western Allied; Raffy Espiritu, Clean Innovation; Henry Jung, Johnson Controls; Bob
     Kraiss, Adaptec; Tom Lighthouse, Valley Facilities Management Corporation and Kris Wafler,

     Award Recipient: Morgan Cooper, chair of the Marketing Committee, Fenwick & West LLP.
   Special Events Award
   Award Recipient: Cathy Cathey, past chair of the Special Events Committee, Brook Furniture.

   Professional Development Award
   Award Recipient: Nichole Stephenson, member of the Professional Development Committee,

   Communications Award
   Award Recipient: Ed Novak, current President and past Newsletter Editor, CFM Works.

Rounding out the evening, Mike Robbins, national author, speaker and coach working with some
of the largest corporations in the country, roused the audience with a highly motivational
message from his latest bestseller “Be Yourself, Everyone Else Is Already Taken”. Mike shared
insights from his own experiences to illustrate how we can all unleash greatness within ourselves
and bring out the best in others. Mike underscored, “Authenticity is enjoying a new sense of
freedom to be who you really are – yourself, natural and without a mask and not letting the little
voice inside tell you that you are not good enough.”


About the 2010 Board of Directors

ED NOVAK, President Ed has also been past Co-Chair of the Member Relations Committee, the
Communications Committee, past Editor of our Newsletter and is a member of the Professional
Development Committee. Ed has been an IFMA Silicon Valley member since 1995. Ed has a CFM
credential and has been a long-time member of the Professional Development committee where
he helped create the CFM Advisory Board. Ed’s firm, CFM Works, provides professional facilities
consulting services and he is currently consulting at JDSU.

LARRY MORGAN, Vice President: Larry holds the credentials CFM, RPA, FMA and SMA and is Co-
Chair of the Professional Development Committee. He is an IFMA Certified Instructor responsible
for the IFMA FMP & CFM classes and also a Certified BOMI Instructor with 10 years of instruction
experience. An IFMA Chapter member since 2006, Larry is Head of Facilities Operations, Palo Alto
and Vancouver Region at SAP Labs in Palo Alto. He has over twenty-five years experience in
facilities management.

TERRY RIECKEN, Treasurer: Terry has been an IFMA Member since 2004. Terry left a career as a
professional pilot in 1979 to become Partner and Vice President of a Commercial and Residential
Real Estate Development Company. As President and CEO of CMD Builders, he holds a California
General Contractors License. Terry is a long-time member and supporter of our chapter and has
served on the Vendor’s Fair Committee. He is also active in BOMA.

CLAUDIA FOLZMAN, Secretary: Claudia has nearly two decades of construction experience and
has been an IFMA member since 2003. As a co-founder of Iron Construction, she is responsible
for the day-to-day operations of the business including business development and project
management. Claudia is also long-time member of BOMA (Building Managers and Owners
Association) and CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women).
JULIE O’LOUGHLIN, Immediate Past President: Julie is the Senior Director of Facilities,
Operations & Emergency Management Systems at Fenwick & West. She is Immediate Past
President of IFMA SV and serves on the Professional Development and Membership and
Marketing Committees. Julie has been an active member of the chapter since 2000 and a
member of IFMA since 1997, serving as President of the Legal Council from 2002-05. Fenwick
implemented a green program in 1996 with Julie spearheading that effort. Fenwick has a LEED-CI
Platinum office in Seattle and a LEED-EB Gold building in Mountain View.

KEVIN KLINK, Director: Kevin Klink is a Licensed California Real Estate Broker with Grubb & Ellis
specializing in transaction services, property and facilities management, consulting services and
lease administration. Prior to joining Grubb & Ellis in 2008, Kevin worked for a number of leading
electronics companies including Konica Minolta and Toshiba where he held various positions
including General Manager and Regional Sales Manager. Kevin is Past-Chair of IFMA’s
Membership and Marketing Committees.

ERIC LEE, CFM, Director: Eric Lee is a long-time member, having joined the IFMA Silicon Valley
Chapter in 1994 and becoming a CFM in 1997. Eric is a current member of the Board of Directors,
the Professional Development Committee and as a past chapter president, advises the Board in
implementing strategic goals. He has been in facilities management for more than 20 years,
working for a number of Bay Area firms.

JUDITH SAYLER, CPSM, LEED-AP, Director: Judi has more than 20 years as a business
development professional with firms involved with the design and construction of commercial
facilities and is owner of Marketing Spheres. She is a member of IFMA’s Professional
Development Committee, the BOMA SV Membership Committee and serves as Vice Chair of the
Programs Committee for the U.S. Green Building Council SV Branch. Judi is LEED accredited and a
certified marketing professional.

International Facility Management Association (IFMA)
IFMA is the world’s largest and most widely recognized international association for professional
facility managers with 125 chapters, supporting more than 19,000 members in 60 countries. The
association’s members manage more than 37 billion square feet of property and annually
purchase more than US$100 billion in products and services. Formed in 1980, IFMA certifies
