Hello, Leander ISD.

As I promised last time, I’m back today at River Ridge Elementary School, with a
preview of the three new schools we’re opening this year in Leander ISD.

River Ridge Elementary is located on Quinlan Park Road in Steiner Ranch. The scene at
River Ridge changes every minute – but the furniture is moving in and the final touches
are being made. The River Ridge campus features many of the impressive and successful
new design features that we used in the construction of Westside, Parkside and
Grandview Hills Elementary Schools last year.
Jim Rose is the principal at River Ridge.

Reagan Elementary School is our other new elementary school opening this year. Of
course, Reagan was named after the late President, Ronald Reagan.

Reagan Elementary is located on Park Street, near Henry Middle School and Vista Ridge
High School.

Some 760 Kindergarten through 5 th grade students will be in the first class of the Reagan
Rays and will be led by veteran LISD principal Kim Adcock.

Also, this year, we’re going to open Vandegrift High School – but we’re opening it in the
building that will open next year as Four Points Middle School. This impressive school
is named after Lt. Matthew Vandegrift – an outstanding Leander High School and Texas
A&M Graduate who was the first LISD graduate killed in the Iraq war.
More than 500 9th and 10 th grade students will make up the first class of the Vandegrift
Vipers this year at the Four Points Campus, then the new Vandegrift campus will open in
20-10. Charlie Little is the Principal of Vandegrift High School.

The completions of these three new campuses are just some of the physical examples of
the rapid changes our district continues to go through. Starting this fall, more than 29-
thousand, 800 students will be coming through Leander ISD doors.

Each student represents the challenge to each of us, to continue to build bridges to their
success while working and partnering with our parents to make this the finest school
district in the nation.

Summer’s quickly coming to an end, with the 2009-2010 school year about to start. I
hope you’re ready – I’m excited!

Have a great day!
