                   SWIMMING POOL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN


DEFINITION
Under general supervision – operates, cleans, repairs and mechanically maintains District
swimming pools and equipment; and does related work as required.

Representative Duties
Performs a variety of work in the mechanical maintenance and operation of swimming pools;
operates filters and pumps in the cleaning of pools; tests water for chemical content; checks
chlorine and soda ash; backwashes District pools weekly or more often if needed; repairs and
adjusts pump equipment and machinery used in the operation of pools including diatomaceous
earth filters, chlorinators, flow meters and chlorine booster pumps; brushes and vacuums pools,
washes down decks and cleans tile; disconnects used chlorine tanks and replaces with full tanks;
requisitions materials and supplies; makes safety equipment readily available; keeps simple
records; oversees pool maintenance activities to see that they comply with State and County
health regulations; reviews technical reports and blue prints to keep informed on pool
maintenance practices; establishes and maintains cooperative relations with others; and performs
other related duties as required.

ENTRANCE QULIFICATIONS GUIDE

Training and Experience
Minimum of one year swimming pool maintenance experience; two years trade school desired or
equivalent working time as maintenance helper.

Knowledge and Abilities
Good Knowledge of: swimming pool tools, pipes and valves; basic methods and procedures
used in maintaining water, pumps and pool equipment; State and County health regulations
applicable to public swimming pools, safe working methods and procedures.

Ability to: work from sketches, drawings and blue prints; follow oral and written instructions;
work cooperatively with others; drive pickup truck; keep simple records.

Licenses
A valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.

Medium Work:
Positions in this class perform work which involves the frequent lifting, pushing and/or pulling
of objects which may approximate 50 pounds and may occasionally weigh up to 100 pounds.
