                            Create Google Reader account

Go to www.google.com/reader
   • If you have a Gmail account, enter your login details.
   • If you don’t have a Gmail account, click on Create an Account. Fill in your
       details and make a note of your username and password.


                        Create a table of contents alert feed

   i.    Go to http://www.nature.com/nature
  ii.    Click on Live Newsfeeds
iii.     Click on Nature's current issue table of contents.
 iv.     Copy the URL at the top of the page
  v.     Go to Google Reader
 vi.     Click on Add Subscription
vii.     Paste URL and click on Add

                    Create a ScienceDirect search alert feed

   i.    Go to library.dcu.ie and click on e-resources > A-Z of Databases >
         ScienceDirect
  ii.    Click on Register at the top right of the screen. Fill in your details and make a
         note of the username and password
 iii.    Click on Alerts > Add Search Alert
  iv.    Run a search
   v.    Click on Search Feed
  vi.    Copy and paste the URL
 vii.    Go to Google Reader
viii.    Click on Add Subscription
  ix.    Paste URL and click on Add

                Create a Web of Science search alert feed

   i.   Go to library.dcu.ie and click on e-resources > A-Z of Databases > Web of
        Science
  ii.   Click on Sign in.
 iii.   Click on Register.
 iv.    Fill in your details and click on Register > Continue. Make sure you keep a record
        of your Web of Science username and password.
            NOTE: your password must have:
                      at least 8 characters
                      at least one number
                      at least 1 letter, case-sensitive
                      at least 1 of these: ! @ # $ % ^ * ( ) ~ `{ } [ ] | \
                      Examples:           1sun%moon
                                               abcd1234#
                                               hyland1@dcu
   v.   Now you are logged in to your personal Web of Science profile.
  vi.   Now run any search in Web of Science.
 vii.   Click on Search History.
viii.   Click on Save History > Create Alert.
  ix.   Name the search in the History Name field. Make sure the Send Me E-Mail
        Alerts option isn’t selected. Click on Save.
   x.   Click on the XML button.
  xi.   A new window will pop up. Select the URL and copy it.
 xii.   Go to Google Reader
xiii.   Click on Add Subscription
xiv.    Paste URL and click on Add



               Create a Web of Science Citation alert feed

   i.   Go to library.dcu.ie and click on e-resources > A-Z of Databases > Web of
        Science
  ii.   Run a search and select an article
 iii.   Click on Create Citation Alert
 iv.    Click on Done
  v.    Click on My Citation Settings > Modify Settings.
 vi.    Deselect Send Me Citation Alert (this is for email alerts). Click on submit
        changes
 vii.   Click on the XML button next to the paper you saved
viii.   A new window will pop up. Select the URL and copy it.
  ix.   Go to Google Reader
   x.   Click on Add Subscription
  xi.   Paste URL and click on Add
