The School Business Management Certificate Program is designed to promote development of leadership skills and introduce core competencies necessary to be successful in a wide range of school district positions. This is a two-year certificate program. Courses will be taught by USC faculty and school district administrators who demonstrate expertise in their fields. Specific Courses Introduction to School Business Management an overview of the role of business services in a school district and the impact of these services on educational outcomes Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation • School Construction and Property Management • Purchasing and Food Services • Accounting and Auditing Procedures in Educational Institutions • Charter Schools an introduction to current practices and procedures and a review of relevant codes, regulations, policies, and provisions which impact school business services in these topic areas Budget Development and Administration instruction on developing and monitoring district, department, and site budgets Risk Management a study of insurance programs for personnel, liability, property and risk reduction Technology and the Chief Business Official an introduction to concepts pertaining to integration of technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of school operations Chief Business Official Leadership an examination of the roles of the CBO including discussion of the relationship of the CBO with the school board; review of administrative responsibilities; and an introduction to techniques of long-range planning Personnel Administration a survey of regulations, laws, and provisions relating to the recruitment, selection, and performance management of classified employees Fieldwork in School Business Administration The program will be offered in a cohort fashion at the Beaudry Building.
