							                                  RADIATION SAFETY OFFICER

US ECOLOGY WASHINGTON, a leader in the waste disposal industry is seeking a Radiation Safety
Officer to work at our facility in Richland, WA. The selected applicant will plan, implement and direct
radiation safety programs for the company; establish and promote the maintenance of a safe, accident
free, and healthy work environment. Candidates must be knowledgeable in governmental regulations
specific to the environmental waste industry to include radiation safety auditing and compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ensures that company projects are conducted in a safe manner, according to company, industry and
   regulatory radiological safety standards. Develops and/or implements appropriate procedures.
• Ensures that effective radiation protection programs are in effect and effective.
• Responsible for the administration of radiological control documents and procedures, Facility
   Standards Manuals, Contingency Plans, and ALARA plans.
• Performs radiological safety audits at various company sites.
• Controls employee exposure to hazardous waste, chemicals and/or radiation.
• Creates radiological reports both monthly and annually.
• Consults with clients and other departments or facilities on radiological issues, design and use of
   equipment, exposure prevention and safety programs.
• Keeps managers and employees alerted as to the hazards of working with radioactive and other
   hazardous substances.
• Compiles and submits accident and other reports required by regulatory agencies and company
   management.
• Represents the company in community or industry radiological safety groups and programs.
• May manage radiological control program, permitting/licensing, medical surveillance program,
   environmental monitoring, and industrial hygiene, groundwater monitoring or specific parts of a
   radiological safety program depending on location. Inspects or tours facilities to detect existing or
   potential accident and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventative measures where
   indicated. Ensures compliance with OSHA and other rules and regulatory requirements.

REQUIREMENTS
•   Bachelor's degree (B.S. or B. A.) from four-year college or university, preferably Master’s, in
    radiological science. Minimum 5 years experience as a health physicist, preferably in waste disposal
    or environmental monitoring. Experience as a radiation safety officer managing dosimetry and
    occupational radiation protection program is highly desirable.
