João A. C. Santos is an economist in the

							João A. C. Santos is an economist in the Banking Studies Group of the Federal Reserve Bank
of New York. His research interests include financial systems design, contract theory, banking,
banking regulation and corporate finance. His articles have been published in the Journal of
Financial Intermediation, Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Services
Research, Journal of Corporate Finance, Financial Markets, Institutions and Instruments, and in
various Federal Reserve publications.


Dr. Santos joined the Bank in May 2000. From 1992 to 1994, he was a lecturer in the
Department of Economics at Boston University. From 1994 to 1997 he was an economist at the
Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland and from 1997 to 2000 he was
an economist at the Research Group of the Bank for International Settlements.


Dr. Santos received his licenciatura degree from the Department of Economics of the
Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 1986, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in economics
from Boston University in 1995.
