Judging

Applications will be considered by scoring each answer against the criteria.
Applications will be viewed by Bournemouth Tourism and judging will be
undertaken by The Bournemouth Tourism Management Board. Mystery Shopping
will also be undertaken.

If you are hand writing your application please ensure that it is as clear as
possible to enable the judging panel to easily read your information. Please
include examples of your work – promotional materials, photographs etc.

In order to ensure parity and fairness to all entrants, any wording above the
specified word count will not be considered in the judging process.

                    CRITERIA & APPLICATION GUIDANCE
This award is aimed at any individual, organisation, or group of organisations, that has
contributed significantly over the past 12 months to the development of the
International Education Sector within Bournemouth.

Who can enter: Individuals, Language Schools, Colleges of Further and Higher
Education, Higher Education institutions operating within the boundaries of
Bournemouth Borough Council or are members of the International Education Forum
and/or Bournemouth Tourism.

Question 1. Please state how long you have been in business at your current location by
ticking the appropriate box.

Question 2. State the number of full and part time employees that work for you.

Question 3. Please give a brief description of your target markets.

Question 4. Please describe your establishment and what you offer customers in no
more than 300 words, explaining why you should be the recipient of the award for the
Contribution to International Education 2008.

Question 5. Welfare provision
o   Initiatives and fresh ideas in the area of student welfare.

Question 6. Marketing Activity – in no more than 200 words
o   Initiatives and fresh ideas introduced in the last two years, which have brought
    new or repeat business.
o   Information should be provided on the success of these initiatives.

Question 7. Improvements
o   Innovation and new developments that have improved the customer experience.
    Information should be provided on the success of these initiatives.

Question 8. Staff Training
o   A history of commitment to staff training and development that relates specifically
    to the recruitment, day-to-day handling and overall well being and welfare of
    international students.
o   Judges will be looking for examples of where this type of training is put into
    practice on a daily basis.

Question 9. Care for the environment
o   Applicants for this award need to demonstrate an awareness of their environment.
    For example, using sustainable materials, energy/water saving initiatives,
    recycling, reducing packaging, or supporting local events, produce and people.

Question 10. Accessibility
o   Establishments should clearly demonstrate a commitment towards catering for
    customers with disabilities wherever possible.
o   Entrants should also show they have taken reasonable steps towards meeting the
    requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).

Additional information:
o   Judges are looking for examples of excellence in all areas of business practice e.g.
    ISO 9000, Investors in People, customer care and product development.
o   Examples of any promotional material (e.g. photos, press releases, student
    feedback, brochures) should be provided to support your entry.
