Activity
I’ve brought up some supplies that you can use for “filler” activities in
case you run out of things to do.
Stained Glass Crosses from Oriental Trading
They are prepackaged; just give one to each child. I’m sure
         they will need help.
         Group or Individual Painting project
We have individual sheets of paper or a large roll of paper
that can be cut and taped to the wall. There are also
Christian stampers. Let the kids use the stampers and paint
to create an artistic piece of their choosing, either together
(on the paper on the wall) or individually (on their own
         paper).
         Music & Dancing
Just use the CD player and CDs and go crazy!

Activity 8 (Do at 11:50 AM - 10 Minutes)
Message:
We can find God in nature too.
Activity:
Explain homework.
Give each child a brown lunch bag with their name on it. Then ask
each of them:
What is one of your favorite things that God Made?
Tell them:
We can learn about God by listening to the stories in the bible like the
one we just read about Jesus and the vine. We can also learn about
God by looking at the wonderful things God makes. We’re lucky to be
at a camp in the woods, because we can see so many of the things
that God has made. Ask the kids to share examples of things they
might see at camp that God has made.

So, today you have some God homework. After you have lunch today,
you should ask your parents to help you fill up your bags with some
nature items from outside that remind you of God – leaves, flowers,
pebbles, anything small you can find at the camp that reminds you of
God. Rules about not disturbing living things? And when you come
back tomorrow, we’ll talk about everything you found and do a great
project with it!

Your other God homework is to flip your pillow!

Go see God!

Friday PM: Activity 1 – Jesus Pillow
                                                     by Renee

As children drift off to sleep, they think about Jesus.

Materials: Topics:
White pillowcase for each child Protection, Thankfulness
Colored Permanent Markers
Cardboard insert for each child
Blank sheets of 8 1/2 X 11 paper

Duration: Target Age:
Approximately 20 minutes Preschool to Grade 1

Preparation:
Depending on the age of the children, you may want to draw the picture on the pillowcase and have them color
it in. Older children can do the entire project by themselves. Insert the piece of cardboard into the pillowcase;
this will keep the marker from going through to the other side of the pillow. You may want to have the children
practice their designs a blank sheet of paper first.

What you will do:
Give each of the children in your class a pillowcase (and cardboard insert). On one side, have the children draw
a large picture of a smiling sunrise. Help them write the words, "Rise and shine, give God the glory, glory,
children of the Lord" around the smiling sunrise.

Once complete, flip the pillowcase over and let them draw a picture of a rainbow. Help the children write,
"Watch over me as I sleep, sweet Lord Jesus."

What you will say:
Each morning when you wake up, turn your pillow over to the side that says "Rise and shine, give God the
glory, glory, children of the Lord." This will remind us to give God thanks each day. When you get ready to go to
sleep turn the pillow over to the side that says, "Watch over me as I sleep, sweet Lord Jesus." with God
watching us, we will know that we will have a good night's sleep.

Saturday AM: Activity 1 – Guess What You Hear?
                                                      by Craig

Children guess which sounds are made by different items, and learn that Jesus knows
exactly who we are when we pray.

Materials: Topics:
Whistle Prayer, Listening
Harmonica
Stapler
Bell
Baby rattle
Any other familiar item that
makes a nice sound

Duration: Target Age:
Approximately 10 minutes Preschool or Kindergarten

Preparation:
Before class, find five or six familiar items that make an identifiable sound, such as the examples above. Put all
of these items into a large paper bag.

What you will do:
You will go before the class, and have everyone close their eyes as you take one item at a time out from the
bag, and make a noise with it. (You will also want to turn your back to the class, and hide the item you are using
as best as possible so kids who are peeking will not see it.) After making the noise, place the item back into the
bag, and then let the kids open their eyes. Then ask them if they know what the item was by the sound they
heard. Let them know if they were right or wrong before going to the next item in the bag.

What you will say:
Some times we can tell what something is just be the sound it makes. At other times, just hearing the sound is
not enough. We need to see it also. But when we pray, we don't need to worry about how we sound, or if God
will hear us. He will know who it is, because Jesus takes our prayers to the Father. We can pray and be sure
that God will hear and answer our prayers. The Bible says, "And we can be confident that He will listen to us
whenever we ask him for anything in line with his will. And if we know he is listening when we make our
requests, we can be sure that he will give us what we ask for." 1 John 5: 14,15 NLT

                                              by Helen from New England

A fun game that can be used for many different lessons.

Materials: Topics:

lesson Word.

Duration: Target Age:
15 minutes Grades 1 2 3 4 5

What you will do:
Before class, obtain pictures that relate to your lesson. You can print pictures at home, using software designed
to make greeting cards. You can also find pictures in magazines or hand draw the pictures.

Hide these pictures around the room before the children arrive. It's a good idea to count the pictures first, to
make sure that all of them are found. This game is a good icebreaker for children who don't know each other.

What you will say:
Today our lesson is on the topic of God’s Presence and the places that we can find God. Today we will be
going on a treasure hunt. I have hidden ______ number of pictures through out the room; it's your job to find
them all and then put them in this treasure chest. These pictures all relate to God being present in our lives. At
the end of the treasure hunt we’ll talk about all the pictures. On the count of three, find the pictures!

Once the children find all the pictures, you can explain how each picture relates to the lesson. You could also
mention that the greatest treasure hunt of all is putting God's word into our hearts.

After you talk about the pictures you can use the following page to talk about some other times when God is
with us. After you all read through the sheet, the kids can each add their own ideas at the bottom. Then you
can read each new item and have all the kids say: “Thank you God, for being with us.”

You can leave the treasure chest out and open for the rest of the weekend.

Saturday AM: Activity 6 – Vine and branches

Tell your child that today you are going to read a beautiful passage of the most wonderful,
important and interesting books ever written: The Bible.

If possible have a bunch of grapes that are still connected to branches for demonstration during
the reading.

                                    The Vine and the Branches
                                           John 15:1-5

Before Jesus returned to heaven, he taught some important lessons to his disciples and everyone
else who follows him. One of these lessons was about the vine and the branches.

The Vine and the Branches
1 "I am the true vine. My Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch joined to me that
does not bear fruit. He trims every branch that does bear fruit. Then it will bear even more fruit.

3 "You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain joined to me, and I
will remain joined to you. No branch can bear fruit by itself. It must remain joined to the vine. In
the same way, you can't bear fruit unless you remain joined to me.

5 "I am the vine. You are the branches. If anyone remains joined to me, and I to him, he will bear
a lot of fruit. You can't do anything without me.

Hold the grapes then ask the children to hold and smell the grapes. Tell the children to observe
how the little branches are connected to the bigger branches and how all connect to a main vine.
The branches cannot grow by themselves; they need to be connected to the vine to bear fruit.

Explain in your own words and in very simple terms, how we are branches that need to be
connected to the vine in order to grow in God's love: Using the grapes, show child how all the
small branches are connected and then connected to a main vine.

We are branches like the branches in a grape vine, and the vine is Jesus/God.
It is not possible for a branch to grow by itself, a branch must be connected to the vine to
        bear fruit and grow.

Have a snack break: Eat some of the grapes for snack together. (Save some for painting!)

Tell child that you will be doing a great activity about grape vines and branches to celebrate the
fact that God wants to have an active part in your life. He wants to be a vine that you are
connected to.

After the snack:

Put up the poster “Jesus: The Vine”

Have the children make colored leaves by making hand prints with green paint and cutting them
out. Once they are dry, have the kids put their names on them with black marker and cut them
out. (Use the baby wipes to clean up the kids’ hands & other stuff ;-)

While the leaves are drying, cut some large grapes in half (enough for each child to use for
painting). Use them as stampers to paint grapes (in bunches) on white sheets of paper. See if
the kids can make them look like the real bunches of grapes. (If some of the kids are too little for
this concept, you can use the printout of the grapes as a guide and they can stamp right in the
picture.) Once the grape pictures are dry you can cut them out.

Note: You can make different hues of purple by mixing purple with red. If you want, have the kids
make three shades of purple in paper plates to use when painting their grapes.

While the grapes are drying, continue with the leaves. Have the kids stick them to the poster
“Jesus: The Vine”. When the grapes are dry (or the kids can’t wait anymore) have them stick
their bunches of grapes to the poster as well.

Extra Activity – Noah Says
                                                    by Craig

In this version of “Simon Says”,
dogs bark and beg, cats meow and lick their paws, and ducks quack and waddle

Materials: Topics:
None Knowing God, Noah,
                                                                                Obedience, Trust

Duration: Target Age:
15 minutes Preschool to Grade 3
What you will do:
First divide the children into three teams, and have one team be dogs, the other cats and the third team ducks.
The kids will catch on to this game quickly.

Explain to the teams that they are to be dogs, cats or ducks. Dogs bark and beg (arms raised and hands
pointing down as if begging for food.) Cats meow and pretend to lick their paws (hands), and ducks quack and
waddle (bending down with hands touching shoulders like wings.) Then give the instructions below.

When you give the commands preceded with “Noah says”:

Noah says "bark" all creatures bark
Noah says "meow" all creatures meow
Noah says "quack" all creatures quack
Noah says "beg" all creatures beg
Noah says "lick" all creatures lick
Noah says "waddle" all creatures waddle
Noah says "be still" all creatures stop

When you give the commands without saying Noah says first:

 "Bark" only dogs bark
 "Meow" only cats meow
 "Quack" only ducks quack
 "Beg" only dogs beg
 "Lick" only cats lick
 "Waddle" only ducks waddle
"Be still" animals keep doing what they are doing

Any child who does not follow the command correctly has to sit out the rest of the game. The team with the last
remaining player wins. Then mix up the teams and play again as time permits.
Note: For the older children, you can combine commands to make it more difficult, for example:
Noah says, "bark and waddle" (everyone barks and waddles),
Noah says, "Lick and quack" (only cats lick and only ducks quack)

What you will say:
Compare this game to our need to follow God in everything we do. When we follow Him, not only do we have
fun, but we also please Him. As the animals followed Noah into the ark to be safe from the flood, God gives us
his protection when we follow him and trust Him with our life.
