SIBAC: Intelligent Banking
Evolving to Intelligent Banking with Dynasty
Overview
The majority of existing and new entrants into Banking and Financial Services face the demand for major Core Banking Systems re-development. Key reasons for this are the lack of new development undertaken due to Euro compliance work and hurried or even unsound solutions rushed through to support e-banking, which has fundamentally changed the way in which financial organizations must interact. CAD IT is a Verona based Italian ISV and public company quoted at MIBTEL. Rated as one of Europe's most dynamic companies by the European Commission, CAD has redeployed its comprehensive banking application package, now called SIBAC. SIBAC is recognized by users and analysts to be one of the premier core banking systems. This document describes the use of the Dynasty Development Environment (DDE) framework in developing the SIBAC Core Banking business subsystems. The SIBAC product consists of a suite of functional banking subsystems that together build an integrated banking application covering all of the major functions of an international bank from Foreign Exchange through Reporting and the production of Statutory Accounts. The application is multi-currency, Euro-enabled, multi-language, and multi-entity, suitable for all banking needs. CAD and Dynasty were implementation partners in developing the componentbased model. For product-specific information, please refer to “SIBAC: Core Banking.” CAD chose the Dynasty Development Environment to upgrade its highly productive mainframe applications to multi-tier, Internet-enabled products. Using the DDE enabled the development teams to focus on the business requirements, confident that the DDE would generate appropriate application code for the database, hardware, middleware, and platformpartitioning configuration of their choice. The DDE is a visual, component-based environment that provides a set of complete, powerful frameworks for building open, multi-tiered, Internet applications. New SIBAC customers are able to capitalize on that foundation to enhance or add custom modules unique to their business needs. The DDE supports transactions, databases, and batch processing in the enterprise environment. This now includes the HP 24x7 NonStop high performance server integrating with legacy applications, business quality messaging solutions, other HP architectures (such as HP-UX), and other standard technologies.
SIBAC is now available on the premier HP NonStop high performance server.
By means of DDE frameworks, SIBAC subsystems are specified independently of the target hardware, operating system, GUI, middleware, transaction manager, and database software. Using the component model enables a customer to implement selected modules independently. This enables a low risk migration strategy, permitting focus on job-critical module upgrades instead of an “all-or-nothing” conversion effort. Users can “evolve” their systems to new functionality and even to selective application of knowledge-based “intelligent” solutions where the benefit is most cost-effective. Users are able to access modules within the framework for customizing their solutions. They can build unique modules or enhance those provided by CAD.
Application System Architecture
SIBAC has been developed using Object Oriented analysis and development and using a component based approach. Using DDE frameworks for implementing subsystems, CAD has placed the advanced SIBAC into production at a customer site.
The underlying application architecture follows the concept of logical application brokers. This is a major benefit for reducing risk and managing the transformation process (organization and IT) in the customer bank. There is independence among the banking subsystems. Within each subsystem there is a clear layering between the presentation, business/process logic and data. This architecture has also proven to be important when upgrading legacy systems. This design eases implementation changeover from old to new systems composed of new application modules integrated with legacy modules. This built-in flexibility of the system architecture is a design principle that gives the opportunity to mix new application components within existing ones. The openness and integration allows DDE-generated code that can integrate legacy systems, different middleware, database management, operating systems, and the underlying mix of hardware platforms.
applications provide long-term, sustainable competitive advantage, reduced time-to-market, and significant cost reduction for today’s marketplace. Future Proofing SIBAC Core Banking The newest Dynasty initiative for future-proofing SIBAC has been porting to the HP NonStop high performance server. This is a fault-tolerant platform designed for continuous system availability. The power and scalability of the NonStop environment, the unique database management capabilities, and especially the access to HP’s Zero Latency Enterprise (ZLE) framework provide dramatic new processing potential for SIBAC. ZLE encompasses all of HP’s core server platforms integrated with the software components needed to provide a single, real-time operational data store. ZLE allows instant access to information, enabling integration of business rules, workflow management, and data. It creates an up-to-the-second, enterprise wide ODS accessible by all key applications. SIBAC and Dynasty offer you a commercially viable open banking environment. Because SIBAC and the DDE integrate with HP and other industry-leading third party technologies, products and class libraries, you may choose “best-in-class” middleware, TP monitors and application management tools when developing and deploying enterprise applications.
Dynasty Development Environment
The Dynasty Development Environment is a leading suite of software component building and assembly products. Its full development environment allows easy enhancement of an existing solution. Open Enterprise Architecture The DDE’s multiple partitioning options, automatic generation of C/C++ code and relational SQL, and extensive support for transaction processing monitors and middleware make the DDE easy to adapt and maintain. The DDE facilitates the use of the most suitable and highly scalable technology, such as HP’s NonStop high performance server and ZLE framework for NonStop banking. Assembly of applications from reusable components is a primary goal pursued by CAD IT developers. Given the maturity of object technology today, leveraging reusable components is the ideal way to meet your complex business requirements in a cost-effective and scalable manner. The fast execution, platform independence, and transaction processing capabilities of DDE-generated

Evolving to Intelligent Banking
Dynasty has continued to enhance its suite of Application Frameworks since the late 1990s. Modified to “enable” software for knowledge-based enterprise business products, these frameworks provide the means for transforming “intelligent” software projects into business-ready intelligent solutions. Enterprise banking organizations have a wealth of operational expertise, data, and other in-house knowledge that can be preserved and shared as productivity-enhancing software modules. Dynasty provides the software infrastructure, the know-how, and the dynamic partnering relationships to turn this knowledge into intelligent solutions.
