Virgin London Marathon 2010 Event guide for Heart Runners It’s so close to the big day, so to put your mind at ease this helpful little guide will explain everything you need to know in the run up to marathon day. We hope that you are as excited as we are about Sunday 25 April. The streets will be lined with over 1 million spectators cheering on over 33,000 runners. This is a truly unique marathon but also a unique way to see and experience London. We wish you the best of luck with your last few weeks preparation and look forward to meeting you on the day. Virgin London Marathon Exhibition All runners MUST collect their running number from the Marathon Expo, located at the London ExCel Center. Without your running number you will not be able to take part in the event. To collect your running number you must take with you a confirmation letter of your running number (which will be sent to you from the event organisers two weeks before the marathon) and a form of photo ID. The Expo opening dates and times Date Times Wednesday 21 April 11am – 8pm Thursday 22 April 10am – 8pm Friday 23 April 10am – 8pm Saturday 24 April 9am – 5pm Over 70,000 visitors attend the marathon exhibition so we recommend you allow plenty of time for your visit. Saturday is the busiest day, so if you live in or around London we recommend that you attend before this. Getting to the Expo Address: ExCel, 1 Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Dock, E16 1XL By tube: The quickest route to ExCel is on the Jubilee line. If travelling on the Jubilee Line change at Canning Town station for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and alight at Custom House for ExCel. You can also take the DLR from Bank or Tower Gateway tube stations to Custom House for ExCel. You can visit tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner to plan your journey by tube. By road: ExCeL is located just 1 mile east of Canary Wharf and 1 mile west of London City Airport. Key road signs to look out for are: ExCeL West, ExCeL, Royal Docks and London City Airport. There is limited spaces in the pay and display car park onsite. Visit our BHF stand at the Expo The Heart Runners Support team will be at the Expo all week, so please stop by to meet the team, sign a ‘love note’ and collect your *Supporter Packs. BHF Charity Stand no. 254 Event Day Info Heart Runners Pre Marathon Meeting point We have managed to secure exclusive access to the Pavilion Tea House in Greenwich Park on the morning of the marathon! Situated on the edge of the red start area, the Tea House is just a few minutes walk from the red start line. The marathon organisers will send out a magazine shortly with information about the start areas and how to get there. Everyone who has a BHF Charity Place will be starting form the red start area. Please drop in to warm up, grab a drink and most importantly use the clean, flushing toilets! This is exclusive for BHF Heart Runners! To gain access you will be asked to show your BHF Heart Runners running top. Please note: Due to security restrictions, the tea house will only be accessible for runners using the RED start line. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this might cause. We hope that as many Heart Runners’ friends and family will join us at these points to cheer you on. These points have been positioned in key locations around the course and will be decked out with BHF banners, balloons and a team of BHF volunteers. Our hope is that these points will be extremely visible, making it easier for supporters to spot the Heart Runners and for the runners to spot them. There is a separate Supporter guide which is enclosed with this pack with full details of the cheering points that you can hand out to your supporters! Celebratory Party Please come along to our post race reception where we’ll have food and masseurs ready and waiting for you! As well as a big cheer! There is an invitation enclosed with this letter, please can you complete this and return to us so that we can make suitable catering arrangements. Due to limited space, Heart Runners should bring no more than 5 supporters. The finish area Recovery Party Cheering point 4 Top tips for Heart Runners To make sure our BHF supporters can see you easily the crowd: ♥ Wear your Heart Runner top – this will help you stand out in the crowd! ♥ Write your name on the front of your running top. The support you will receive from cheering points and other members of the crowd will be fantastic! If you have indicated the iron on letters you would like to receive, you will find them enclosed in this pack. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you need to order yours. ♥ Arrange for your family and friends to go to one or more of the official Heart Runner cheering points. These will be extremely visible making it easier for you to spot supporters in the crowd. ♥ Give us a wave as you pass our cheering points – and remember to keep an eye out for us!
