MEMORANDUM FOR 490th CTW

SUBJECT: Basic Rules of Engagement
1. Each AS Class has a different set of rules of engagement (ROEs) that they will adhere to
during Leadership Laboratory (LLAB), Practical Military Training (PMT) or while doing
business with the Cadre. Each class is expected to follow these ROEs in or out of uniform in
addition to maintaining preexisting Air Force Standards.
2. The Basic Rules of Engagement are as follows:
a. AS 100 – As new cadets, they will focus on learning the standards and rules. They are
expected to:
(1) Adhere to the Chain of Command (go to Flight Commander or fellow flight
members first).
(2) Learn and apply proper customs and courtesies to Cadre and Cadet officers.
(3) Learn the importance of suspenses and strive to make every one on time.
(4) Learn the importance of communication and check their e-mail at least twice a day.
(5) Focus on learning new skills, such as Drill and Ceremonies, Reporting in, etc.
(6) Will not take charge of any formation (exception: may do so during extracurricular
activities such as Drill Team, AAS, etc.).
(7) Will not transit alone at any time. They must have a wingman at all times while out
of formation. AS 100s will preferably travel with an AS 200 or POC if the
destination is far from the training site.
(8) Will not call exercises at official Physical Training Sessions.
(9) Will stand at attention when addressed by POC or Cadre.

(10) Will stand at attention stating "Cadet (Last Name), _____Flight, Sir/Ma’am" prior
to answering or asking a question to a briefer during LLAB.
b. AS 200 – As returning cadets, they are acquiring the skills they will need for Field
Training. AS 200s will focus on honing their skills and preparing for Field Training.
(1) Adhere to the Chain of Command.
(2) Apply proper customs and courtesies to cadre and cadet officers. They will use the
7 Basic Responses with Cadre and POC at all times.
(3) Meet every suspense on time.
(4) Check their e-mails at least 3 times a day.
(5) Assist AS 100s in learning practical skills while honing their own.
(6) Will not transit alone during PMT. They must have a wingman at all times while
out of formation.
(7) Will not transit in gaggles. They must transit in a detail or a flight while outside.
They must transit in a single file line on the right side of the hallway while inside.
(8) Will be expected to take charge of formations at any time.
(9) Will be expected to know verbiage and call exercises at formal Physical Training
Sessions.
(10) Will brace the wall while greeting cadre and POC.
(11) May be engaged by POC to answer questions regarding Warrior Knowledge.
(12) Will not be allowed to use acronyms. CTA is the only allowed acronym.
(13) Will read and understand Operations Orders for Leadership Laboratory and read
necessary sections of the Field Training and Airman’s Manual prior to the lesson.
(14) Will stand at attention stating "Cadet (Last Name), _____Flight, Sir/Ma’am" prior
to answering or asking a question to a briefer during LLAB.
(15) Will sit at attention at all times unless instructed otherwise.
(16) Will have the FTM, AM, LLAB Ops Orders, PMT Ops Orders, and Cadet Guide
on their person during all ROTC activities. (Excluding PT). Spot checks may occur.
(17) Will be standardized at all times.

(18) Will be expected to know the FTM upon issue. Previous online copies should be
reviewed if one has not yet been issued.
(19) Will PT in BDUs once every week. If BDUs were not issued ABUs will suffice.
(ABUs must still be worn to LLAB if they were issued.)
c. AS 300 – As the returning Field Training class, they are now POC and will focus on
developing their own unique leadership and management styles.
(1) Adhere to the Chain of Command.
(2) Apply proper customs and courtesies to cadre and senior cadet officers and correct
those of the GMC if necessary.
(3) Meet every suspense in a timely manner.
(4) Different positions will dictate how often e-mail should be checked. Minimum is 3
times a day, but at times it may be necessary to check more often.
(5) Assist and mentor AS 200s about leadership styles and Field Training preparation.
(6) May be required to call exercises at formal Physical Training Sessions.
(7) Will stand at a professional At Ease while speaking to cadre or senior POC.
(8) Will not call the room while a GMC is in the room to do it
(9) Will hold responsibility to correct FTP cadets.
(10) Will stand at parade rest to answer or ask a question to a briefer during LLAB.
d. AS 400, 500, and 700 – As cadets on their last year, these POC will continue to hone
their leadership abilities and focus on their preparation to enter active duty.
(1) Will adhere to the Chain of Command.
(2) Apply perfect customs and courtesies to cadre and senior cadet officers and correct
those of the GMC if necessary.
(3) Meet every suspense in a timely matter.
(4) Should set the standard for communication (staying on top of e-mails, phone calls,
etc.).
(5) Expected to come up with possible options for solving problems as they arise for
the commander to choose from.

(6) Serve as a role model for the CTW – Relentless Professionalism, Positive Attitude,
exemplary officership.
(7) Should not have to call the room (LDC, Classroom, LLAB, etc) unless
circumstances dictates otherwise (EX: only SCL and ECL present).
(8) Should not have to call exercises at formal Physical Training Sessions unless
circumstances dictate otherwise (no FTP or ICL present).
(9) They will be treated like second lieutenants, but in turn be expected to act like them.
(10) Will avoid correcting the FTP cadets if ICL is present. SCL will correct the IMTs.
(11) Will stand at parade rest to answer or ask a question to a briefer during LLAB.
