									         Campus Parent Involvement Policy
           Bonham Elementary 2008-09

The primary goal of family involvement at Bonham is to
promote education as a family affair. Parents and family
members are considered each child’s first and most important

Additional goals:
*Encourage and educate families to become a part of their child’s
success by creating a climate at Bonham where families can be a
willing part in the education of their children.
****Involve families by welcoming them into our school and
helping them to feel like it is “their” school.
*Help by giving information to families often through notes,
flyers, marquee, and phone calls on how parents and family
members can be involved in a child’s education and success.
*Work with parents and family members as partners in each
child’s school success.

These goals will be accomplished by:
* Holding at least 3 learning nights for parents.
*Holding musicals
*Holding Art Shows
*Fall Festival

Communications from school to home will be written in the
language and form (literacy level) of the home. Parents are
notified of family involvement activities and events by:
*phone calls, flyers, marquee sign, personal communication, and
personal invitations from students
Family involvement activities and events will be offered at a
variety of times and places:
*Places: Bonham Elementary
*Times: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays
             12:00 P.M., 5:30 P.M., 7:00 P.M.

Annually, meetings involving families, faculty, and staff will be
held to discuss and review the campus family involvement
plan, programs, budget, and changes. To accommodate all
families, meetings are held :
*4:00 P.M.

Bonham will provide staff development to faculty and staff on
the value and contributions of parents/families; how to reach
out to, communicate with, and work with parents as equal
partners. This training will be held:
*Fall faculty meeting 4:00 P.M.
*Discuss appropriate interactions with parents, ways to teach
parents to teach their kids, how to listen to parent concerns

Coordination, technical assistance, and support for family
involvement is provided by: Family Involvement Specialist and
our Family Involvement Committee.

In 2009-10, Bonham will build capacity for strong family
involvement through:
*Holding parent events
*Holding parent conferences
*Making parent phone calls
*Making home visits when appropriate
*Making personal contact with parents when they are at the school.
We promote and coordinate family involvement with Head
Start, Even Start, Carver, and Milam Pre-K by:
*Hosting a “Kindergarten Transition” night in the Spring to
welcome the families.

The school-parent compact describes how parents, family
members, faculty, staff, and students will share responsibility
and share success for the academic achievement of each child.

The school-parent compact is evaluated annually. The compact
is then reviewed and revised as needed to reflect input from
families, faculty, and staff. The compact is distributed:
*Teachers discuss and sign the compact during the first parent
conference of the year.

Bonham family involvement will be evaluated each year by:
*Faculty surveys
*Parent surveys (sent home, at family events, given out personally)
*Will look for increases in attendance in various groups on campus
