Liability Claims
Liability Claims
Whether it’s employers liability, the largest excess of loss claim or the smallest third party claim for a damaged carpet, our liability claims teams set high standards for innovation and expertise - backed up by our financial strength.
Medical and Vocational Rehabilitation
Our liability claims team pioneered the use of medical and vocational rehabilitation in the handling of employers liability claims. We believe that the traditional adversarial claims process creates high legal costs and delay and benefits neither the victims of workplace accident or injury, nor their employers. This is why we are such strong advocates of medical and vocational rehabilitation. We have helped thousands of employees who have been injured or made ill at work, by delivering the right medical treatment and support until they get back to work in a position that is right for them. Rehabilitation also delivers other important benefits such as saving management time, reducing disruption and improving union and employee relations. In 2002 we introduced rehabilitation across the board as part of our standard employers liability policies. Medical and Vocational rehabilitation also has applications for third party injuries too, and wherever possible our claims department will be seeking to deliver rehabilitation to third parties injured through our clients’ negligence.
Innovation and Expertise
Our liability claims teams constantly look for opportunities to help clients contain their loss. For instance a good corporate reputation can take years to build, but can be ruined overnight by a badly handled crisis (such as a major accident). So immediately a loss threatens our clients’ reputations, we provide optional crisis consultancy services to ensure that post-loss communications to staff, customers, suppliers, regulators and particularly the media are consistent, positive and professional. We also have access to a wealth of technical skills to put at the disposal of our clients at the claims stage. Such as dealing with the police or HSE on our clients’ behalf, managing post loss procedures like reporting protocols and isolation procedures, or providing case notes and evidence for clients’ legal representatives.
Financial Strength
The long tail nature of liability claims highlights the importance of an insurance carrier’s durability. We are a member company of AIG, one of world’s largest and strongest insurance and financial services organisations. Our financial strength and levels of security, matched by few other insurance organisations, means that we have the ability to meet our financial commitments to policyholders now and in the future.
Rapid Response
There's little doubt that delays in the notification of accidents can have an adverse effect on the ultimate cost of the resultant claim. Our accident reporting system combines our own reporting technology with the Health and Safety Executive’s reporting requirements to create a rapid online notification system for employers liability clients. This streamlines clients’ work processes, improves accident notification and facilitates faster and deeper analysis of accident and location trends. Experienced and knowledgable claims handlers who can be dedicated to particular accounts are fundamental to our liability claims teams. Being able to provide a consistent interface with our clients also fosters a trusting business relationship.
