Whether you have a business that is
based out of your home, or if you
want to maximize your efforts at yo
ur job, there are 3 basic concepts
that will ensure your success.

By learning about and embracing the
se 3 simple _ and free _ success te
chniques you will not only increase
your productivity, but you will ma
intain your sanity as well!

Scheduling

Yes, you are busy. Everyone is busy
these days. From stay at home pare
nts who raise children full-time, a
ll the way up through CEO_s of bill
ion-dollar companies, everyone is b
usy. However, everyone has the same
24 hours every day to get things d
one, so keep that in mind if you ha
ve the habit of thinking that your
situation is different from anyone
else_s.

When it comes to scheduling all of
the things that are on your daily o
r weekly to-do list, writing down t
he master list of things that you w
ant to accomplish is the absolutely
 mission-critical first step.

The reason why writing down everyth
ing on your to-do list is so import
ant is because until you write it d
own, you probably don_t have a true
grasp over just how many things yo
u are trying to do every day!

Write down every single thing that
you do that takes even 5 minutes of
your time. Your list could include
_ but will hardly be limited to _
things such as:

Personal _ Sleep schedule, taking b
reaks, practicing personal hygiene,
eating, talking on the phone, deal
ing with children, spending time wi
th your family, running errands, su
rfing the Internet, exercising, etc.

Professional _ Daily and weekly wor
k tasks, answering email, product d
evelopment, marketing, research, ta
king care of your website, tending
to customer service, going to meeti
ngs, travel time, dealing with othe
r employees, etc.

Once you have your list of things t
hat you need to get done every day
or every week, then you need take a
REALISTIC look at how much time yo
u have to dedicate to each of those
 activities.

Realism

It is critical that you write down
how much time you actually spend on
each of your tasks. Don_t set your
self up for failure by underestimat
ing how time much you truly spend o
n the things that you do regularly.

For example, if you actually spend
4 hours per day reading and replyin
g to email, but you find that numbe
r shocking, don_t schedule only 2 h
ours per day to work on email.

If your travel time is 60 minutes o
f actual driving, but then also inc
ludes a 30-minute window in the mor
ning and again in the evening durin
g which you get back and forth to y
our car, start up or shut down your
work area, chit-chat with other em
ployees, etc., then you have to inc
lude that in your schedule.

Being realistic about the many thin
gs that take up time everyday is th
e hardest part for most people. We
find it difficult to believe that o
ut of an 8 or 10-hour work day, tha
t so much of that time is spent NOT
working, so we tend to mentally bl
ock out the things that are not pro
ductive.

Here is the thing to remember, thou
gh: Whether you are being productiv
e or not, the clock is still tickin
g. You might be amazed at how much
time you spend each day NOT accompl
ishing the tasks that are in front
of you.

Perseverance

Scheduling your time and being real
istic about how long it takes to ge
t things done is only the beginning
. Realizing that you have many thin
gs to do every day and that you cou
ld clean up your productivity habit
s is simply not enough to effect ch
ange.

You have to consistently _stick to
your guns_ and follow through on wh
atever plans you come up with in or
der to increase your productivity.

If you are going to leave your hous
e 30 minutes earlier in order to be
at the traffic rush, only doing so
occasionally is not going to net yo
u any serious amount of additional
time over the long-term.

Avoiding chatty co-workers in the b
reak room one day, but carrying on
a 20-minute conversation with them
the next day is only going to serve
 to cancel out your efforts.

At home, avoiding the home-based di
stractions every Monday and Tuesday
, but then slacking on your resolve
to be more productive by the end o
f the week will not allow you the c
umulative benefits of your efforts.

Regardless of what systems that you
put in place in order to increase
your productivity, follow the 3 bas
ic rules that were just mentioned,
and you will achieve long-term succ
ess:

Schedule your time, be realistic ab
out what you have to do each day an
d how long it takes, and stick to a
good plan of action to start incre
asing your productivity. Not only w
ill these habits increase your prod
uctivity, but they will also increa
se your success in life!
