REGATTA LIABILITY INSURANCE
If your Club or Association is a current member of the Canadian Yachting Association, it has access to the CYA Regatta Liability Insurance Policy. The Regatta Liability Policy was designed specifically for CYA members who were having trouble in obtaining "third party bodily injury" coverage for the on-water part of their general insurance program. The policy is written through the Axa Insurance Company on a Comprehensive General Liability Policy covering bodily injury (i.e. not property damage). The following quote from the insuring agreement of the policy gives a good summary and description. "The Insurance Company will pay on behalf of the insured all sums which the insured shall become legally obligated to pay as damages because of bodily injury occurring either on board a participating yacht or official vessel, or in the water as a result of having been aboard a participating yacht or official vessel, during a regatta". This policy also pays for legal expenses to defend any lawsuits. The coverage begins when the boats leave their mooring or anchorage and continues throughout the race until they return to their mooring or anchorage immediately following either their completion of the race or their retirement from the race. The territory covered is Canada and the United States of America. The coverage has a limit of $2,000,000 and any members who wish to be added to the policy will become an “Additional Named Insured” under the master policy issued to the Canadian Yachting Association. Please note that the term for the master policy for the 2002 season is March 1, 2002 to March 1, 2003. Coverage starts upon: 1) 2) Receipt of a completed request form and premium cheque in the amount of $500.00 ($540.00 for risks located within the province of Ontario), and Verification of current membership with the CYA.
