VIPAR: Virtual Institute of
Process Analysis Research
Dr. Tony Davies
ISAS, Dortmund
• Industrial Process Analysis is now
one of the major development areas
in analytical research in Europe and
across the world.
• In order to effectively co-ordinate the
development work being carried within
the Union it is essential that a virtual
institute be formed to oversee projects in
this area, act as a clearing house and
contact centre as well as to act as a
multiplier for the results obtained.
Situation
• Individual Activities in Industry
• CPACT
• CPAC
(Center for Process Analytical Chemistry,
Washington, USA)
Economic Benefits
• reduction of production costs by 10-20%
by on-line and in-line Process Control
• environmental and work safety increase
• less re-work
Scientific
• VIPAR as
- centre as excellence
- resource and information multiplier
• VIPAR will actively bring consortia and
experts together from:
• analytical chemistry, chemical engineering,
chemical engineering, chemometrics,
sensors and instrument manufactures
Future Plans
• Submit an Expression of Interest to the
European Commison
EUROPEAN
COMMISSION
RESEARCH
DIRECTORATES
• Set up a network of participants from
chemical and pharmaceutical industry
