Pellets stoves refer to stoves that
use pellets as a fuel. Pellets are
very cost effective and are quite
efficient as compared to the electr

urposes.

Pellet stoves are effective home he
aters. A pellet stove is just like
a wood stove; the only difference i
s that it is automated.

A pellet stove is quite simple to u
se. You are just required to add pe
llets to the hopper of the stove an
d thereby set the desired heat outp
ut. The stove will automatically de
termine the optimum amount of air f
or combustion. Most pellet stoves c
ome with a fan to circulate air via
heat exchanger. Some stoves rely o
n radiant heat delivery process.

What is Pellet Fuel?
Pellets are biomass products, made-
up of wood paste or sawdust. Pellet
s acts as a renewable and clean bur
ning fuels. More than 600,000 thous
and people in North America use woo
d pellets for heat. These pellets a
re used in fireplace inserts, furna
ces and freestanding stoves. The pe
llet fuels turn waste materials int
o sources of energy.

How do pellet stoves work?
Pellet stoves are basically electro
nic devices. These stoves automatic
ally adjust and control combustion,
blowers, fans and heating. You are
required to insert pellets into th
e hopper located at the top of the
stove. A hopper generally holds up
to 80 pounds of pellets.

Most pellet stoves contain an auger
. The purpose of the auger is to de
liver pellets to the combustion cha
mber from the hopper. The movements
of the auger can be set manually,
but it_s generally set automaticall
y. Pellets are delivered at a rate
of 1 pound per hour, in case of glo
wing fire, and 5 pounds per hour, f
or a blazing fire. The size of the
fire depends on the amount of the f
eed.
The pellets are fed into the fire p
ot of the combustion chamber. To en
courage super heated flame, combust
ion air is blown into the chamber.
A fan, provided inside the stove, d
raws in the room air. The drawn air
is heated at about 250 degrees in
the heat exchanger. Then the warmed
air is thrown back in the room. Pe
llet stoves rely on convective heat
. This is the reason why pellet sto
ves are not hot when touched.

The combustion gases are vented out
side the room via flue which exits
on the top of the unit. Pellet stov
es do not require chimneys.

Types of pellet stoves
Pellet stoves are available in vari
ous styles and size varieties. Ther
e are different types of pellet sto
ves available.

For great flexibility freestanding
pellet stoves are available. These
stoves are available with installat
ion options. These stoves are suppo
rted by a pedestal. Freestanding pe
llet stoves are designed to be inst
alled in any area of the house. How
ever there is one limitation, they
should never be installed in sleepi
ng areas. These stoves are placed o
n a protector which is non-combusti
ble in nature. Freestanding pellet
stoves should always be installed a
t a safe distance away from combust
ible surfaces.

Fire place inserts are also a type
of pellet stoves. These are install
ed in working fireplaces. The space
between the fire place opening and
 insert is covered decoratively by
a panel. These pellet inserts are t
ypically installed in masonry firep
laces. These pellet stoves offer yo
ur home a look of fire place settin
g. These stoves are economical. You
can apply bricks around and atop t
his type of stove to give it a look
of fireplace. You would require a
non-combustible floor protector to
provide for air space under the unit.

Pellet stoves, no doubt, provide yo
u with low cost fuel and reduces yo
ur energy consumption bills drastic
ally. Mother Nature provides yet an
other better fuel alternative to ke
ep you warm and cozy.
