Introduction/Objective: Summarize the history of European settlement in Carolina from the first attempts to settle at San Miguel, Charlesfort, San Felipe, San Marcos, and Albemarle Point. (Indicator 8-1.3) Timeframe: 1-2 days Materials: 0 South Carolina: Historv of an American State textbook, Chapter 3 & 4 Pages 75-88 and 95-102.

Instructions: Have students read pages 75-88 and 95-102 in their South Carolina textbook. Students are then to complete the chart and the map on the "European Settlements in South Carolina". After sheet have been assessed, papers should be returned to students. The teacher should then go over the correct answers encouraging students to make corrections. Differentiation for Diverse Learners/Levels of Ability 0 Advance students can complete work individually and could research each settlement or just one settlement for additional information 0 Other students may work in cooperative groups to complete activities Informal and Formal Assessment Suggestions: Teacher will evaluate Activity Sheet and Map of South Carolina for accuracy and completeness.
