SCHOLARSHIP BULLETIN # 2 2007-2008 1. AXA Achievement Scholarship - $10,000 state scholarships are awarded to 52 students. To qualify students should be “well rounded, determined to succeed and have demonstrated achievement at a job, sport or extracurricular activity.” The application deadline is December 15, 2007. For more information please visit www.axa-achievement.com. 2. The John Montgomery Belk Scholarship – Davidson College. This full tuition scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated academic success and shown significant leadership. Ten Belk scholars will receive a renewable scholarship for full tuition, as well as two summer stipends for further enrichment. If you wish to be considered for nomination, please see your guidance counselor before November15, 2007. 3. The Meyerhoff Scholarship Program – University of Maryland, Baltimore County. The Meyerhoff Program is open to all high achieving high school seniors who plan on pursuing degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics (STEM). These students must also plan on pursuing doctoral studies in a STEM field. The awards range from $5,000 to $22,000 per year. The John Cannon Memorial Scholarship – The Foundation of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. This award is given to a college bound applicant who has demonstrated exceptional talent as a creator of video programming as well as outstanding academic achievement and potential for success in an extremely competitive field. This $40,000 scholarship is given to an outstanding high school senior who plans on majoring in Communications, with emphasis on any aspect of the television industry. Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps Scholarship – Scholarships are awarded through a highly competitive national selection process, and receive full tuition and other financial benefits at over 100 leading colleges and universities. Visit their official website at https://nrotc.navy.mil for more information. 6. Danforth Scholars Program – Washington University in St. Louis. Candidates for the Danforth scholars program exhibit personal integrity and a dedication to academic excellence and community service. Danforth Scholars receive full or half tuition to Washington University in St. Louis. This is a merit based award, but need is considered. If you wish to be nominated, please see your guidance counselor before October 15, 2007. 7. Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship Awards – Students interested in a career in government service are eligible for scholarships through the foundation. The deadline for applications is January 15, 2008. Visit www.gwcf.org for more information. 8. Taylor Community Foundation Scholarship – These scholarships provide up to $2,500 per year and may be renewed up to three years. Applicants must be pursuing a major in the allied health professions and upon graduation agree to work in Taylor Community Foundation’s primary service area (eastern Delaware County). The application deadline is Nov. 30, 2007. The Career Center has applications or visit www.taylorcommfdn.org 9. Pennsylvania Elks State Association – There are several levels of national competition with awards ranging from $4,000 to $60,000. In addition, the Association provides one time grants of $1,200 to 62 Pennsylvania students each year. Applications are available on-line at www.elks.org. Look for the Elks National Foundation 2008 Most Valuable Student Scholarship. All applications must be filed with the ELKS LODGE having jurisdiction in the area where the student legally resides – to find the nearest Elks Lodge go to www.elks.org/lodges. The application deadline (the date the application must be in the hands of the Elks) is January 11, 2008. 10. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards – Offers various awards for students who have exhibited exemplary community service. Award winners may receive up to $5,000 at the national level. This program is sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary High School Principals. Application for this award may be made on-line at www.prudential.com/spirit or www.principals.org/prudential The application deadline is October 31, 2007. 11. Ohio Wesleyan University – 25 Presidential Scholarships worth full tuition will be awarded, as well as Trustee Scholarships valued at $23,000 and 60 Faculty Scholarships valued at more than $15,700. Students who have taken the most rigorous high school courses, and whose combined new SAT exceeds 1920, or whose ACT composite score is 27 or higher are eligible. If you are interested in being nominated, please see your guidance counselor. 12. Goizueta Scholars Program – Emory University. Goizueta Scholars will receive up to full tuition for four years, including study abroad options. This program is highly selective and recipients will have guaranteed admission to the business school. Successful nominees will have outstanding academic credentials and have demonstrated an interest in business through entrepreneurial activities and internships, or participated in business related clubs, competitions, or similar events. If you wish to be nominated, please see your guidance counselor. Application deadline is November 1, 2007. 13. Wimmer Scholarship Competition – Saint Vincent College. This program recognizes high school seniors who have achieved academic success with a GPA of at least 3.25 or higher. The scholarship offers a top prize of full tuition, and room and board. The competition is comprised of an exam that includes English, Mathematics and “general knowledge”. The nomination deadline is November 2, 2007. See your guidance counselor for more information. 14. Jefferson Scholars Foundation – University of Virginia. Jefferson Scholars are merit based awards covering the full cost of attending the University of Virginia. Award winners are high school seniors who have demonstrated “uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents, and a broader understanding of the community around them.” If you wish to be considered for nomination, please see your guidance counselor before November 1, 2007. 15. The John McKee Scholarships – These scholarships offer college OR vocational training to male high school seniors who are fatherless, in need of financial assistance and are native to the five county Philadelphia area in Pennsylvania. The college award grows from $2,500 to $5,500 each year. The vocational award for a full time student who remains in good standing will be $1,000 per year for the life of the vocational program. The Career Center has applications, or go to www.mckeescholars.org The applications must be received by February 1, 2008. 16. Create-A-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest. This contest is sponsored by Prudent Company, Inc. Artwork or a simple digital photo may be entered. A $10,000 cash scholarship will be awarded to the winner.
