Job Title: Market Manager, Part-time Organization Name: Lake Mills Main Street Program (LMMSP) Job Location: Lake Mills, WI Website: www.lakemillsmainstreet.org Organization Mission: The Lake Mills Main Street Program is a non-profit organization whose mission is to foster downtown revitalization and promote economic redevelopment while preserving our heritage. Job Overview: The Lake Mills Farmers’ Market (LMFM) is one of the most visible activities that the LMMSP manages and is a major reflection on the health of the organization and community. The goal of the Market Manager is to improve the quality of the market through planned growth and marketing. The Market Manager will work with and oversee the LMFM Committee to maintain and improve the market. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Oversee LMFM and LMFM Volunteers, report directly to the Lake Mills Main Street Executive Director Results: Continually improve quality of LMFM, through vendor selection and organization, special events and attendance each week Pay Rate, Period, Time, and General Duties Position will be on a contract basis beginning four weeks prior to the market opening during which time five hours per week will be required for planning, recruitment and marketing. When the market is in operation, the Market Manager must be present at the market for a minimum of five (5) hours between the hours of 1:00 p.m. and 7:30 pm (8:00 pm in June, July & August) beginning May 5 and ending on Oct. 27. Market Manager may select when he/she is present during this time period. Market Manager must arrange to have at least one volunteer present at any time the manager is not present at the market. Additional hours per week will be used for recruitment, planning and logging of information (no more than 10 hours total per week). Additional hours may be done at any time in manager’s discretion. Position will end two weeks after the last market during which time five hours per week will be required for wrap up of season. Salary dependent on experience. Specific Duties Direct market management activities include, but are not limited to: o Work with committee to prepare market site o Facilitate vendor set-up: collect vendor fees and submit to LMMSP Executive Director, coordinate vendor placement, resolve issues and disputes, allocate market space for optimum usage (maximize vendor participation). o Enforce regulations: be THE on-site resource for LMFM rules, enforce the rules, answer questions, address concerns, enforce appropriate county and state regulations. o Work with committee to record attendance: conduct daily vendor counts, estimate customer attendance, record attendance in comprehensive log. o Work with committee and executive director to coordinate market events. o Monitor vendor satisfaction: solicit and record vendor feedback on general satisfaction, specific issues, and improvements. Other market management activities include, but are not limited to: o Maintain market database of farmers, producers, vendors, contact information, licenses, permits. o With executive director creatively market LMFM using all appropriate means, to expand vendor and customer participation. o Generate and foster business connections to the LMFM, as appropriate. o Actively cross-promote the LMFM with other regional farmers’ markets. o Actively participate in LMFM fundraising activities. o Actively recruit vendors and verify that recruited members meet minimum requirements, outlined in LMFM rules. o Submit weekly report to LMMSP, to include: Vendor counts Customer estimates Vendor issues and suggestions Customer issues and suggestions Action plans to address issues and implement suggestions o Actively participate in community meetings and activities on behalf of LMFM. Identify creative ways for LMFM to be a part of all appropriate community activities. o Actively participate in end-of-season evaluation and goal setting for next season. o Conduct farm/producer inspections, as needed. Qualifications and Required Skills Displays excellent people skills: friendly, outgoing, tactful, strong communication skills, with an emphasis on listening. Resolves conflicts diplomatically. Possesses excellent organizational skills and displays high level of efficiency. Possesses strong team development and leadership skills, with an emphasis on delegation, empowerment, collaboration, and results-focus. Develops and implements programs creatively. Advocates enthusiastically for Lake Mills, local markets, supporting local producers, slow food, and sustainability. Demonstrates an understanding of and experience with Farmer’s Markets Leverage contacts in the Southern Wisconsin local market community Connects effectively with those who are unfamiliar with LM and the LMFM and persuades them to participate. Marketing skills and experience helpful. Financial (budgeting and accounting) knowledge helpful. Market Manager will be an independent contractor and not an employee of Lake Mills Main Street.
