							OPTION B – USE OF SICK LEAVE AND THEN VACATION LEAVE


     Effects on Income

        1. SL adds to wages and WC payments to bring the employee’s total income
           up to 100% of regular earnings.

        2. When SL is exhausted, VL adds to wages and WC payments to bring the
           employee’s total income up to 100% of regular wages.

        3. When VL is exhausted, ESL adds to wages and WC payments to bring the
           employee’s total income up to 80% of regular earnings.

        4. When the 26 weeks of ESL is exhausted, if the employee has not returned
           to full or reduced-schedule work, the employee is placed on Leave
           Without Pay (LWOP).


     Effects on New SL and VL Accruals

     1. While using the SL supplement:

               Accrual: New SL and VL hours are accrued in full.
               Crediting: These hours are credited upon accrual.
               Use: They may be used as soon as they accrue.
               Separation: If the employee separates from UC employment, VL
                accrued during this period is paid to the employee.

     2. While using the VL supplement:

               Accrual: New SL and VL hours are accrued in full.
               Crediting: These hours are credited upon accrual.
               Use: They may be used as soon as they accrue.
               Separation: If the employee separates from UC employment, VL
                accrued during this period is paid to the employee.

     Effects on Holiday Leave

            While using SL as a supplement, Holiday Leave hours are credited in full.

            While using VL as a supplement, Holiday Leave hours are credited in full.
Effects on University Health Plan Contributions

       While using Sick Leave to supplement WC payments and wages, the
       University continues its usual contributions to Medical, Dental, and
       Optical Insurance Plans.

       While using Vacation Leave to supplement WC payments and wages, the
       University continues its usual contributions to Medical, Dental, and
       Optical Insurance Plans.

Effects on Service Credit

        When SL is adequate to bring “REG” Time up to 100% of regular hours,
        the employee receives their regular Service Credit.

        When SL is exhausted, if VL is adequate to bring “REG” Time up to
        100% of regular hours, the employee receives their regular Service
        Credit.

        When VL is exhausted:

          a. If “REG” Time hours are greater than 80% of regular hours:

                     “ESL” Time hours are not needed.
                     Service Credit will be greater than 80% but less than 100%
                      of regular credit.

          b. If “REG” Time hours are less than 80% of regular hours:

                 “ESL” Time hours are added to bring the total up to 80% of
                  regular hours.
                 Service Credit will be 80% of regular credit.
