                Emerson Motor Technologies® Launches
                  On-Demand Production Capabilities

Reduces Motor Lead-Times from Several Weeks to Just Days

St. Louis, MO, January 23, 2007 - Emerson Motor Technologies, a business of
Emerson (NYSE:EMR) is setting new delivery standards in the motor industry with its
new on-demand production processes at the company’s Customer Service Center in
Southaven, Mississippi.

Motors produced on Emerson’s new Ready Line, for integral horsepower motors, and
FastFlex Line, for fractional horsepower motors, are built on-demand, as each individual
customer order is received. Both lines offer typical turnaround times of just two days or
less, compared to traditional industry lead-times of up to eight weeks for custom orders.

“We listened to our customers’ needs and completely changed our business model to
meet those needs,” says Ken Poczekaj, President of Emerson Industrial Motors. “Our
customers wanted shorter lead-times, fast access to a broader range of motors and
reduced inventory requirements. To meet these challenges, we developed a Lean
Enterprise Process, with production based on actual demand rather than a forecast. This
truly revolutionary new process allows Emerson to offer our customers a level of service
that is unmatched in the industry.”

Emerson’s new on-demand production processes are the culmination of more than five
years of effort in reevaluating its supply chain, reengineering its products and investing
in equipment and infrastructure. Emerson maximized the benefits of its lean processes
by expanding its view of the supply chain—looking forward to its customer’s customer
and back to its supplier’s supplier. This involved extensive collaboration with industry-
leading OEM’s and end users, as well as with key suppliers.

The first integral horsepower motors being produced on the new Ready Line is
Emerson’s line of Cooling Tower Duty motors, which includes more than 1,000 models.
Before the Ready Line, less than half of these were produced and inventoried as
standard items, resulting in lead times of up to eight weeks for many models. Today,
with on-demand production, more than 1,000 Cooling Tower Duty motor configurations
are available in just days.

“The traditional process in our industry has always been to forecast demand,
manufacture to that forecast, and then wait for your customers to order, hoping you
guessed right,” says Scott Nieberle, V.P. of Sales & Marketing for Emerson Industrial

Motors. “When a customer wanted a motor that wasn’t in stock, the lead time was
several weeks at best. But the Ready Line has changed all that. No matter what
variation of cooling tower duty motor my customer needs, I know I can usually deliver in
a matter of days.”

On the new FastFlex Line, Emerson’s most popular fractional horsepower motors are
produced on-demand in as little as 24 hours. Custom nameplates are generated and
affixed, rotation can be reversed and packaging can be customized. The FastFlex Line
has a capacity of 400 motors per hour.

Both the Ready Line and FastFlex Line offer lead-times and customization options that
are unprecedented in the motor industry. What’s more, Emerson has located final
assembly closer to its customers at the Southaven facility, with a strategic location that
can offer next-day delivery to 70% of Emerson customers in the United States.

The lean enterprise processes being utilized in the Southaven Customer Service Center
are part of an overall corporate lean strategy at Emerson. The company plans to expand
the number and types of motors being produced on the new Ready Line and FastFlex
Line, while also continuing to implement lean principles throughout the organization.
