Re: Open Letter to Syracuse USBC Bowling Association Members
Dear Syracuse USBC BA Member:
Many of you have read the articles in the Syracuse Post Standard and/or have heard about the
New York State Bowling Association’s Charter and a number of members of the NYS BA’s
Board of Directors. While we have little additional information concerning USBC’s actions
against the State Association, we want to clearly communicate to you that your local Association
is in no way associated with the activities, sanctions or any potential “fall out” from what is
happening at the State level.
Here, however, is a brief recap of what has happened, as it relates to the Syracuse Bowling
• Steven Donahue was the New York State Bowling Association Manager and, during the
same time, was the Syracuse USBC BA Manager.
• When the Syracuse BA received notification from the USBC that they were suspending
Mr. Donahue, we were required to remove him from his post at the Syracuse Association,
and did so immediately.
• An audit was conducted on our Syracuse BA accounts and showed that no money was
missing and all of our accounts were in good standing.
• The Syracuse BA Charter is also in good standing with the USBC.
• Syracuse was the host city for the 2008 NYS BA Tournament. We provided volunteers to
work the tournament, which was run by Mr. Donahue prior to his removal and then by
Louis Liberatore, NYS BA Assistant Manager, for the remainder of the tournament.
• We have no additional information on when tournament winners will receive their checks
from the 2008 NYS Tournament, but were informed by USBC officials that they would
be handling those payouts. For specific information, we encourage any NYS Tournament
entrant to contact USBC at 1-800-514-BOWL.
The Syracuse BA Board of Directors continues to work diligently to ensure the integrity of our
bowling community and we welcome any and all communication with our members. Please be
assured that all sanctions we have received have been processed in a timely manner and are still
valid through the local, state and national organizations. And finally, the Syracuse BA continues
to be a viable Association working for the betterment of our local bowling community. If you
would like to contact the Syracuse Bowling Association, please call us at (315) 488-3761 or email
