Wirral Site: Site operates 12 hours a day, five days a week. 250 part-time staff 1750 full time staff 1,500 Staff work 9am to 5.30pm. 250 Staff work 7am to 3pm. 250 Staff work 2.30pm to 7pm Question 5: Site Characteristics Additional Support Package Organisation Registration Form Please provide a brief description of each of the sites identified in question 4. For example, is the site located on an industrial site, are there other organisations on the site, do you own or lease the sites? Our site is located on the outskirts of a medium-sized town and is a major employer in the area. We own most of the site, but lease a section of land from the local authority to use as parking. This site accommodates the technical staff for this area, but also accommodates the administrative and support staff for the entire organisation (covering the UK). We are located adjacent to the A54 which is the main route into the town centre and also provides access to the motorway (approximately 3 miles away). We have spaces for 1000 vehicles on-site, but find that there is always a shortage of parking spaces during the day. We’ve noticed that more and more staff are coming onto site earlier to get a parking space. Those members of staff who cannot find a parking space then appear to park in the surrounding residential areas which is starting to cause animosity with local residents. We have carried out a formal survey in 2003 and found that most employees drive to work. A small amount of staff do use local bus services, but very few use trains (as the rail station is over 2-miles away). We have several school visits over a normal week, normally arriving by coach, together with a relatively high number of visitors / audience members. We have attempted to provide dedicated visitor parking but as with staff parking there seem to be insufficient spaces. There are other employers / organisations in the vicinity of the site ranging in size and nature (from small to large offices in the nearby town Question 6: Site Travel Plan(s) Additional Support Package Organisation Registration Form Do you have a travel plan in place at the site(s)? We developed a travel plan in 2003 and have implemented a number of measures including cycle parking, showers and setting up a Bicycle User Group. We have supported bike to work week by rewarding staff that have cycled to work with a free cyclists’ breakfast but this was not a success as it was poorly attended. There is a link to Merseytravel’s journey planner on our intranet site and we regularly attend the TravelWise forum meetings. Question 9: Travel and Transport Protocols If you do not have a site specific travel plan in place, please use this space to describe any specific measures, policies or protocols you have in place concerning how staff and visitors travel to work. For example, interest free loans for public transport tickets, tax breaks for bikes, home working policy, flexible working or staff shuttle buses. Whilst we have a travel plan which we developed as part of a planning application four years ago, we have struggled to implement measures and secure a budget. As an organisation, we have limited experience of transport and would appreciate expert guidance on how best to secure a budget which we can use to implement measures. Not only is travel to the site a day-to-day issue for staff, but it is also affecting our levels of staff retention as some people find it hard to travel to work and this has been raised in exit interviews. onto the surrounding roads. The parking problem also has a financial implication – if we cannot control parking we may have to purchase / build additional parking which will have a heavy capital cost. In addition, we are receiving increasing pressure from local residents as parking is over spilling Question 11: Additional Comments If you have any further comments that you wish us to take into account when considering your application please provide details below.
