INTRODUCTION
During a transfer to PREBLE, you may be attending training or stopping during transit
for other reasons. Your local Personnel Support Detachment can help you with arranging
for port calls, transfer information, and other necessary information to smooth your
arrival.

LEAVE
All leave enroute will be counted as regular leave. Remember, the leave is taken with he
understanding that you have enough leave on the books to take it. You can get "in the
hole" taking to much leave enroute. Always check with PSD if in doubt, and contact
PREBLE administration department before you take to much leave.
PARKING
Parking is restrictive at Naval Station San Diego. Blue lined areas are designated Officer
/ CPO only, while all yellow lined areas are PO1 and junior personnel. Beware of
specially designated parking areas, such as carpool, and areas along the quay walls
designated for Afloat chain of command personnel.
BASE DECALS
Naval Station San Diego recognizes all DOD decals. You are not required to obtain a San
Diego decal while assigned to PREBLE, provided you have a valid decal from another
base. Commander, Navy Region Southwest has a requirement in place for eligible
personnel under 26 years of age to complete a AAA safe driving course prior to being
issued a base decal.
FLYING/DRIVING INTO SAN DIEGO, CA
Contact and talk with your sponsor before arriving. If you are flying he/she will make
arrangements to have you picked up at the airport. If you plan on driving, there are
several routes into San Diego: Interstate 8 from the east, Interstate 5 from the north and
Interstate 15 from the northeast.
(A) From I-8 west take I-15 south to Harbor Blvd which leads straight to 32nd street, and
follow 32nd Street into Naval Stations "Wet side". Traffic is extreme from 0600-0800
and 1500-1630, plan accordingly. Contact your sponsor in advance to find out which pier
PREBLE in moored to.
(B) From 1-5 take 28th Street west exit, turn left onto Main Street, then right on 32nd
Street and follow post gate directions in preceding sentence (A).

GETTING AROUND IN SAN DIEGO
There is ample public transportation in the San Diego area. Bus and taxi service is
available almost around the clock, as well as a comprehensive San Diego Trolley system,
which runs to the base. A base shuttle is available and stops at all points of interest on the
naval base including piers, exchanges, PSD, barracks, clubs, and fitness centers.

California’s drunken driving laws are tough. Don’t jeopardize your life, someone else’s,
or your career. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.

HOUSING REFERRAL OFFICE
Before entering into a house rental or purchase, the Housing Referral Office for Naval
Station San Diego (619) 556-8072 or DSN 526-8072 provides a referral service for both
on and off-base housing units. There is a tremendous amount of information available in
their package. There are hundreds of furnished and unfurnished apartments throughout
the San Diego area. The San Diego Family Services Center Welcome Aboard Package
contains two outstanding apartment directories. Be sure you fully understand the
conditions of your lease before you sign for occupancy of any apartment. Personnel at the
Housing Referral Office will review the lease with you upon request. Ensure your lease
contains a "military clause". A military clause is a special lease or rental provision that
allows military members to cancel rental agreements, without penalty, upon receipt of
unexpected reassignment/Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. A complete

assist you and your family into your new residence.
