NAVAL STATION SAN DIEGO, CA

INTRODUCTION

During a transfer to PREBLE, you may be attending training or stopping during transit

for other reasons. Your local Personnel Support Detachment can help you with arranging

for port calls, transfer information, and other necessary information to smooth your

arrival.

MAILING ADDRESS

USS PREBLE (DDG 88)

FPO AP 96675-1303

USS PREBLE CHAIN-OF-COMMAND

CO: CDR Feinberg

XO: LCDR Cupps

CMC: CMDCM (SW/AW) Peerenboom

LEAVE

All leave enroute will be counted as regular leave. Remember, the leave is taken with he

understanding that you have enough leave on the books to take it. You can get "in the

hole" taking to much leave enroute. Always check with PSD if in doubt, and contact

PREBLE administration department before you take to much leave.

PARKING

Parking is restrictive at Naval Station San Diego. Blue lined areas are designated Officer

/ CPO only, while all yellow lined areas are PO1 and junior personnel. Beware of

specially designated parking areas, such as carpool, and areas along the quay walls

designated for Afloat chain of command personnel.

BASE DECALS

Naval Station San Diego recognizes all DOD decals. You are not required to obtain a San

Diego decal while assigned to PREBLE, provided you have a valid decal from another

base. Commander, Navy Region Southwest has a requirement in place for eligible

personnel under 26 years of age to complete a AAA safe driving course prior to being

issued a base decal.

FLYING/DRIVING INTO SAN DIEGO, CA

Contact and talk with your sponsor before arriving. If you are flying he/she will make

arrangements to have you picked up at the airport. If you plan on driving, there are

several routes into San Diego: Interstate 8 from the east, Interstate 5 from the north and

Interstate 15 from the northeast.

(A) From I-8 west take I-15 south to Harbor Blvd which leads straight to 32nd street, and

follow 32nd Street into Naval Stations "Wet side". Traffic is extreme from 0600-0800

and 1500-1630, plan accordingly. Contact your sponsor in advance to find out which pier

PREBLE in moored to.

(B) From 1-5 take 28th Street west exit, turn left onto Main Street, then right on 32nd

Street and follow post gate directions in preceding sentence (A).

Maps of the area are included in the next section.

GETTING AROUND IN SAN DIEGO

There is ample public transportation in the San Diego area. Bus and taxi service is

available almost around the clock, as well as a comprehensive San Diego Trolley system,

which runs to the base. A base shuttle is available and stops at all points of interest on the

naval base including piers, exchanges, PSD, barracks, clubs, and fitness centers.

IF YOU DRINK, DON'T DRIVE!

California’s drunken driving laws are tough. Don’t jeopardize your life, someone else’s,

or your career. DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE.
