October 30, 2005 Dear friends and parishioners, When I wrote this, my travel plans were up in the air (so to speak), thanks to “Wilma.” Nonetheless, I’ve been asked to share with you a program that parishioners in other Toledo parishes have found helpful. The people who found it helpful are parishioners who take seriously their commitments to their parish’s proclamation of the Gospel, including their financial commitment. They want their monetary contributions to be consistent as well as generous; and they want to help their parish through an even cash flow. The program is called “Direct Donation.” At the urging of several CK parishioners, we have arranged with one of our banks (Fifth-Third) to offer the same service here. If you choose to participate in this program, you can authorize your bank or credit union to have your contribution credited to Christ the King Parish electronically (either once or twice a month). The authorization process is easy, it saves you the time of writing a check and preparing an envelope, it saves our money-counters effort at this end, and it reduces fees for everybody. It allows you to support your parish financially regardless of inclement weather, travel, Sunday-morning rushing about the house, or (as in my case, so often) absent-mindedness! This program is, of course, completely optional and currently limited to Sunday offerings. As always, you may submit your offering to the parish by check or cash if you prefer. Even if you participate in the program, you will continue to receive envelopes for special offerings throughout the year. For more details on this program please consult the flyer stuffed with this bulletin. Have a safe Hallowe’en, and I’ll see you for the holyday of All Saints (Tuesday) and perhaps for the Evening Prayer on All Souls’ Day (Wednesday, 7:30). ----Fr. CHRIST THE KING CHURCH TOLEDO, OHIO 8:30 Men’s Over 30 Basketball (AB) Weekly Budgeted Target: October 30, 2005 $21,221.00 Parish Nurse Tip of the Week 30 Corns and Calluses A corn is hard, thickened skin that can occur on the top, between or on the tip of the toes. A callus is similar, but is larger and usually occurs across the ball of the foot, on the heel or on the outer side of the big toe. They are your skin’s way of protecting you. Hard layers of dead cells are produced when skin undergoes excessive pressure or friction. The thicker the corn or callus becomes, the more pain and burning it may cause as it increases pressure on living tissue underneath. Never cut corns or calluses yourself. You can safely exfoliate the deadened tissue by rubbing gently with a pumice stone after soaking your feet in a warm water bath. Corn and calluses are usually easy to identify. If you are unsure abut the nature of a growth, see your podiatrist or family doctor.
