US History Test
Test does a great job of covering a lot of material. Are students presented with a list of
proposition for review?
Can you add directions and point values for the test? For example: Circle the letter of
choice that best describes the statement or answers the question. (1 pt each; 71 pts total)
Throughout the year we have talked about the five quality standards of developing a test.
Reflecting back on those standards how will you use what you have learned in
developing this test to help you develop future tests?
Five Quality Standards
What is the purpose of the test? Is it of student achievement or is it for student
achievement? Is it only to help assign a letter grade for final grades or can it be used to
Achievement targets consist of (1) knowledge and understanding, (2) reasoning, (3)
skills, (4) products, and (5) dispositions. The achievement targets of this seem to be
knowledge and understanding of facts around US History. Can you assess other
achievement targets? How would you get at those other achievement targets?
Assessment methods consist of (1) selected response, (2) essay, (3) performance, and (4)
personal communication. The assessment method you chose was selected response which
is a great match with knowledge and understanding. If you decided to assess a different
achievement target what method of assessment would be the most efficient fit?
Given the amount of material in US History, acquiring a representative sample of
questions around the topic can be much easier if a table of specification is used. Using the
table of specification can make the process much smoother and much more efficient.
Systematically deciding how many questions you will ask in each content area and then
writing propositions that are then turned into questions. This systematic process allows
you to generalize that students’ scores on this test are very similar to what they would
earn if you gave them a much longer test.
Controlling all possible sources of true bias/distortion is impossible, but I sure didn’t see
any that really stuck out within this test.
Overall, you did a great job on this test. It really covers a lot of history.
