EYE LIGHTING FOR EMPEROR MOTH’S EYE SPOTS Emperor Moth, a prestigious London boutique noted for its unique clothing and dramatic interiors, has been lit using EYE Lighting’s ColorArc range of ceramic metal halide lamps. EYE’s products were specified by lighting design consultancy Liminaires to create a lighting scheme that complements the Mayfair store’s highly original approach. A blend of two colour temperatures was used: 6500K and 3500K. Main lighting is provided by ColorArc 6500K lamps mounted in Reggiani BiSio luminaires. 6500K lamps were also fitted in ceiling-mounted narrow beam luminaires which light kinetic mannequins and add further drama and impact. The 3500K ColorArc version was chosen for wall mounted luminaries, to provide ambient uplighting, bouncing off highly reflective ceiling panels. 3500K was chosen primarily to provide excellent colour rendition to skin tone, always an important factor in retail environments. Another interesting feature of the store is a graphics board backlit by natural daylight and its effect is replicated after dark with an EYE ColorArc 6500K lamp in an externally mounted spotlight. The choice of lamps will also ensure that the desired effect is maintained in the future. The 6500K ceiling luminaires have a G12 lampholder whilst the 3500K wall uplighters are G8.5, eliminating the risk of mixing colours when re-lamping. The emperor moth is one of the largest and most distinctive of Europe's moths, recognisable by its four large eye spots which it uses to confuse or frighten an attacker. Inspired by the characteristics of its namesake, Emperor Moth has an exciting and visually stimulating interior. ENDS [See next page for notes.]
