							Unit II: Classical Civilizations -Greece and Rome:

Students are able to describe and analyze the impact that philosophy and religion have on society.
     Students can explain the leading ideas of Aristotle, Plato, and Socrates (1.1)
     Students can analyze how Christianity impacted the Roman Empire (1.2)

Students can describe specific characteristics of and differentiate between government systems such
as theocracy, monarchy, oligarchy, aristocracy, democracy, and dictatorship.
      Students can compare Athenian Democracy with the militaristic aristocracy of Sparta (2.1)
      Students can understand the importance of Greek ideas about democracy and citizenship for the
        development of Western political thought and institutions (2.2)
      Students can describe the characteristics of the Roman Republic and Roman Empire and
        understand and describe how Rome went from republic to empire (2.3)

Students can analyze how different political and cultural ideology changes society.
     Students can analyze the causes and effects of the Persian and Peloponnesian Wars on western
        civilization. (3.1)
     Students understand the influence of Hellenistic culture on modern society (3.2)
     Students understand how geography shaped the development of the Roman Empire (3.3)
     Students can outline Roman contributions to the arts, technology, and law (3.4)
       Students understand the reasons for the decline of the Roman Empire
