      DEKAN FAKULTAS SAINS DAN TEKNOLOGI


Salam Merdeka!

       Pemahaman tentang apa itu Sains dan Teknologi serta
produk-produk yang dihasilkannya menentukan cara orang atau
masyarakat berinteraksi dan berperilaku terkait dengan Sains
dan Teknologi. Kekeliruan cara pandang membuat sebuah
masyarakat semakin menjauh dari identitasnya, dan berakhir
pada keterasingan dari dirinya sendiri. Problem-problem sosial
yang mendasar sangat mungkin lahir dari keterasingan ini.
Sehingga, seolah faedah yang diperoleh tidak sepadan dengan
harga yang harus dibayar.
       Sains dan Teknologi adalah hasil dari sebuah proses
budaya. Semakin kondusif sebuah budaya, semakin produktif
budaya tersebut dalam mengembangkan sains dan
teknologinya. Ketidaksadaran bisa membuat sebuah budaya
bertumbuh menjadi sekedar konsumen dari produksi budaya
yang lain. Dan karena produk sains dan teknologi memuat
sistem nilai dari budaya yang melahirkannya, maka mau tidak
mau pemakai produk sains dan teknologi harus mengakomodasi
sistem nilai budaya yang melahirkan produk tersebut.
       Dalam batas tertentu, piranti dasar yang memungkinkan
mengembangkan sains dan teknologinya sendiri telah tersedia
di hampir seluruh permukaan bumi ini. Setiap masyarakat dan
budaya ditantang untuk terlibat secara aktif di dalam dinamika
kehidupan bersama masyarakat dunia dengan menghasilkan
produk sains dan teknologi yang merupakan buah kandung
budayanya, atau semakin tersingkir dan kehilangan identitas diri
bangsanya karena hanya menjadi konsumen pasif.
       Perguruan tinggi sebagai bagian dari masyarakat yang
bertugas mengelola dan mengembangkan sains dan teknologi
perlu menyadari diri akan tugasnya itu, dengan menjadi
dinamisator dan katalisator pemanfaatan potensi lokal untuk
meningkatkan daya saing bangsa. Hanya dengan demikian

kehadiran bangsa di tengah masyarakat dunia secara
bermartabat bisa dijamin, ialah ketika bangsa ini juga mampu
menyumbangkan produk sains dan teknologi yang lahir dari
proses budaya lokal dan nasional, yang sekaligus menjadi
proses ulang identifikasi jati diri bangsa yang terus bertumbuh.

                     KATA PENGANTAR

       Dewasa ini perkembangan sains dan teknologi
berjalan dengan sangat cepat. Perkembangan ini pada
kenyataannya tidak sepadan dengan kecepatan
penyesuaian diri sebagian besar masyarakat Indonesia
sehingga peningkatan daya saing bangsa tidak signifikan.
Hal ini juga dipengaruhi oleh tingkat kemajemukan
masyarakat Indonesia yang tinggi sehingga banyak
potensi-potensi lokal yang tidak termanfaatkan. Oleh
karena itu banyak hal perlu dilakukan untuk
memanfaatkan potensi lokal supaya daya saing bangsa
meningkat.
       Selain bertujuan memanfaatkan potensi lokal untuk
meningkatkan daya saing bangsa, pelaksanaan seminar
ini bertujuan pula untuk membuka jalan agar sains dan
teknologi dapat dengan mudah dikembangkan dan
diterapkan sebagai salah satu keunggulan potensi lokal.
       Berawal dari pemikiran tersebut, Fakultas Sains dan
Teknologi Universitas Sanata Dharma menyelenggarakan
kegiatan Seminar Nasional untuk mencoba menjawab dan
memberikan solusi yang tepat terhadap kebutuhan
masyarakat akan teknologi, dan membuka jalan agar
potensi local dapat termanfaatkan untuk membuat daya
saing bangsa meningkat. Selain itu juga diharapkan
kerjasama perguruan tinggi dengan dunia industri semakin
terbangun, sehingga akhirnya dapat menjadi penggerak
utama dalam percepatan penggunaan teknologi di dalam
masyarakat dan oleh masyarakat.
        Seminar Nasional ini juga merupakan kegiatan rutin
Fakultas Sains dan Teknologi untuk memotret apa yang
terjadi di dalam masyarakat, merumuskan persoalan, dan

mencoba memberikan alternatif        solusi   terbaik   bagi
masyarakat sebagai potensi lokal.

                                 Abstract

The research has been done to know the antioxidant activity especially free
radical 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) scavenger activity from
ethanol extract and four fractions, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, buthanol and
water of velvet bean seed (Mucuna pruriens L.). To know the antioxidant
activity of extract and fractions of velvet bean seed were compared towards
α-tocopherol, ascorbic acid and butylated hydroxytoluen (BHT), β-carotene.
The research results showed IC50 of DPPH scavenger activity velvet bean
seed extract was 110,41 µg/mL lower than β-carotene, α-tocopherol,
ascorbic acid but was higher than butylated hydroxytoluen (BHT). Ethyl
acetate fraction was stronger activity to scavenge DPPH free radical, the
value IC50 96,36 µg/mL was lower than β-carotene, α-tocopherol, ascorbic
acid , BHT and extract of velvet bean seed

                                  Abstract
                                       
The National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) has constructed a 350
keV/10mA Electron Beam Machine. Facility for research and utilization of
electron irradiation for various purposes such as the improvement of the
quality of industrial products and production process provided in this
machine. Electron irradiation technology is a safe technology and has been
successfully proved for commercialization in developed countries that could
increase the economical profit. One of the possibility application is to
improve the quality of product by curing or coating techniques, for example in
wood craft product. By this techniques the surface of the product could have a
better properties, such as harder, scratch proof, more durable, more flash, so
that it will have added value in economy. The wood craft products are local
commodity of the Yogyakarta Special Province that have a prospective
commodity for export. These commodity will have a better profit if their
quality can be improved by technology touch. Electron irradiation techniques
which following the crosslinking mechanism to the polimer materials used to
cover the surface of plywood has been successfully performed by BATAN’s
scientists, so that the improvement of quality of wood craft product by
electron irradiation techniques theoretically can be done. This paper
describes on the feasibility of apllication of 350 keV/10 mA EBM made by
BATAN for improvement the quality of craft wood concerning specification
and performances of equipment, and the analysis of physically improvement
the product’s properties as well as the economic feasibility. Based on the
experiences of EBM utilization in developed countries, the electron beam of
energy between 150 to 350 keV with dose of 1 to 8 Mrad are required. From
the study of its performances, the 350 keV/10 mA EBM can be utilized for
surface coating of wood and polymer cross linking such as polyethylene,

polyesther, polypropylene, with penetration of several mm and could increase
the hardness/mechanical property, molecule mass and its surface flash.

                                Abstract

Measurement of Moisture Content in solar energy wood drying process is
important factor to the use the controlling of variable control. This
measurement must doing with right and true, because this factor is
determinant to schedule drying, and as value set point for steady state
chamber are temperature and humidity. The scheduling time of drying wood
and observation to Moisture Content are the data of process the drying as
output of process. The problem have to reach the error of approximation,
because this error to the give effect to the efficient of system and the
performance of system for output of wood in drying process. Output the
measurement of Moisture Content the wood and computation systematic error
factor and approximation-error value report to the result determinant is
lowest to the scale value of accurate standard.

                                   Abstract

An estimation of uncertainty measurement of Fe and Ca elements in reactor
tank water sample has been carried out by flame atomic absorption
spectrophotometry method. The objective of this research is to fulfill the
regulation of the Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Accreditation of PTAPB -
BATAN according to ISO/IEC 17025-2005 and to satisfy customer service
that uses this laboratory. For standard quality of reactor tank water, the
content of several cations such as Si, Mg, Na, Ca, and Fe should be less than 1
p.p.m and pH between of 5,5-6,5. The calculation of uncertainty was based on
experiment error (type A) and information error (type B). The greatest
contribution at the analysis of Fe and Ca elements were obtained from
adjustment calibration curve error, while the lowest contribution were
obtained from instrument error. Based on this estimation, it was found
uncertainty using a coverage factor of 2 at confidence level 95 % were ±
0,0774 ppb for Fe and ± 0,0022 ppb for Ca, respectively.

                                 Abstract

Currently, most common elevator control system based on microcontroller or
PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). In this research, it has been designed
elevator control system based on FPGA Altera EPF10K10 using VHDL
(VHSIC Hardware Description Language). The design is split the control
system into modules, each modules and integration for each modules using
VHDL description. The system consist five modules: input decoder, output
decoder, memory, core elevator and control unit module. The synthesize
process, design optimation and implementation on chip done automatically
using MAXplus+II software from Altera. The implementation of control
system needs 494 logic elements and 128 flip-flops.

                                    Abstract

A remote control car application using mobile phone via Bluetooth has been
made. This application can control car in half and full right turn, half and full
left turn, forward with three different speed, backward, brake, and
automatically return to handphone Bluetooth adapter range if possible.
By installing BluetoothCar in mobile phone, this system can connected to car
that have Aircable serial embedded Bluetooth adapter. The movement of
remote control car, handled by a driver circuit that made by an ATtiny2313V
microcontroller, two L293D IC, a 7806 and a 7808 regulator IC. The system
has been tested on Sony Ericsson K750i.
The test result showed that this system could control the remote control car
nicely until the handphone Bluetooth adapter maximum range (± 10 metres).
If 10 metres range exceeded, the microcontroller would return it back to the

                                   Abstract

The earthquake of May, 27th 2006 ago gave big impact to mostly of Kretek
Sub District, Bantul District area. Nevertheless, the height intensity of those
impact in any area may be different each other, sometimes controlled by their
lithologic variety. Parangtritis sand dunes were rocks formed the
southernpart of Kretek Sub District which important to analyze their influence
to building damage impact caused from the earthquake.
To understanding correlation between building damage with sand dunes in
the research area then the field geological survey was done, and completely
with secondary data of the earthquake damage. Compilation of field and
secondary data have been analyzed to answer the problem.
Result of the study show that damage area of May, 27th 2006 earthquake at
Kretek Sub District concentrated at the area which consist of Young Merapi
volcaniclastic rocks and Quaternary talus sediments which consist of medium
sand, clay and pebbly sand sediments. The building at medium sand lithologic
area generally have few damage like cracks only, or not was broken anymore,
while this area so closed with epicenter of earthquake. This fact might be
supported by shear strength of sand dunes which could absorbed vibration or
tremor of earthquake. Therefore, those sand dunes availability have
controlled building damages caused of vibration and shaking of the
earthquake.

                                  Abstrak

Mekanisme lelang telah lama digunakan dalam proses bisnis untuk menjual
berbagai jenis objek sejak beberapa abad yang lalu. Biasanya suatu proses
lelang digunakan untuk menjual objek yang belum diketahui harganya,
fleksibel, dinamis, dan efisien dalam segi ekonomi. Secara umum model
lelang dapat dibedakan empat jenis yaitu: lelang Inggris atau lelang
menaikkan harga; lelang Belanda atau lelang menurunkan harga; lelang
tawaran tertutup harga pertama, lelang tawaran tertutup harga kedua.
Dalam proses pelelangan biasanya terdapat pelelang yang bertugas
mengatur jalannya lelang, penjual yang memiliki objek yang akan di lelang,
dan pembeli yang akan membeli objek yang akan dilelang.
Dalam peneltian ini dikembangkan sebuah model negosiasi multiagen untuk
melakukan negosiasi dalam proses pelelangan terbuka. Agen-agen cerdas
yang dikembangkan terdiri dari agen penjual mewakili penjual, agen pembeli
mewakili pembeli, dan agen lelang sebagai pengatur proses lelang. Ketiga
jenis agen dikembangkan memiliki fungsi dan kemampuan berkomunikasi dan
bernegosiasi dalam melakukan suatu proses lelang. Perkembangan proses
penawaran harga dari setiap agen pembeli ditampilkan pada papan
monitoring.
Dari beberapa pengujian pada suatu studi kasus palelangan barang
komoditas pertanian yang telah dilakukan diperoleh hasil bahwa para agen-
agen cerdas mampu melakukan proses negosiasi lelang untuk mewakili
manusia seperti pada lelang yang sebenarnya dengan tugas dan fungsinya
masing-masing yang diberikan pada agen itu sendiri.

An experiment data obtained from measurement of wood drying process kiln
with control variable are temperature and humidity. Reasoning of data is
may-might as a rule of a control system with a condition and a state are same
of condition at measurement. Approximation of membership function for
variable of fuzzy logic controller is main-point reasoning of data experiment
from a solar energy wood drying process kiln. From computation and
implemented for fuzzy logic controller with modification of membership
function in range (0.5, 1) recommended of use of fuzzy logic controller with
modification of membership function.

                                   Abstract

Advertisement is a thing, means, deed, or media according to structural shape
and type having commercial purpose, used to introduce goods, service, or
people. Billboard is a type of advertisement made from board, or iron, or
aluminum. This advertisement is usually placed in a public, visible, and
readable place. Common problem the renter face is to determine a vacant
location of billboard spot, because so far renter should conduct direct survey.
Meanwhile the problem the organizer (in this case the municipal government)
face is the difficulty of watching and controlling the existing billboard
regarding the vast and numerous billboard spot location.
Geographic Information System (GIS) is a information system designed to
work with spatially or geography coordinate referenced data. Through GIS,
the search of vacant billboard spot location (represented by black), on rent
(green), close-to-deadline (yellow), and expired (represented by red) can be
shown in the form of spot on Yogyakarta city road map. Both the renter and
the organizer can just click the intended billboard spot on the map to get the
complete billboard information.
This Geographic Information System is created by using programming
language PHP4 , MySQL, with database of XML, Macromedia Flash 8 to put
object on Yogyakarta city road map and to show the content of database,
ArcView 3.2. to digitalize map and get Longitude and Latitude coordinate,
Macromedia Freehand 10 and MAPublisher 4.0 to record Longitude and
Latitude coordinate.

                                  Abstract

The paper reports the scheduling Gain of Optimal Fuzzy Control for a solar
energy wood drying process kiln. Variable control of a solar energy wood
drying process kiln is temperature and humidity as use as variable of a drying
schedule. Because a drying schedule of wood drying process have multi step
process, then approximate of state based a concept of multi system with multi
gain of control to reset of value set point of temperature and humidity
chamber. Use Optimal fuzzy controller of simplified to do from scheduling of
a gain control of model multi system from wood drying process kiln in steady
state. From simulation by a responses of step obtained a system can be right
model, systematic of process, and can be a scheduling of set point drying
process.

There are increasing needs of better health care quality nowadays. The health
care must be accountable and based on the best current evidences. The term
of Evidence Based Medicine has been introduced about two decades ago.
These papers describe how information technology can be tools for practicing
and teaching Evidence Based Medicine. Evidence-based medicine (EBM) can
be found on hundreds of general sites, conference and training programs,
software descriptions and files for downloading, extensive megalists, and
online databases. The dissemination of current evidence and guidelines are
also enhanced by the technology facilities. Technology is central to EBM's
practice and growth; statistical analyses, advanced search techniques, global
database management, and information dissemination to all physicians and
other clinicians would be impractical or impossible without a computer.

                                    Abstract

Searching for the shortest path from the origin to the destination city is not
simple. It happens as there are some alternative paths which connect one city
to another with differences in their distance. The search of inter city shortest
path which is done manually brings some weaknesses. They are accurate
calculation and long time. Shortest path search simulation with Warshall
Algorithm facilitates the user in searching the shortest path. In addition, the
user can also observe the iteration result.
One way to search for the shortest path is by using Warshall Algorithm. By
graph modeling, city is represented as dot (vertex) and inter city distance is
represented as path (edges). Warshall Algorithm income is inter city distance.
It is used as initial matrix for iteration process. The iteration calculation final
result is final matrix which shows the shortest path from the initial city to the
destination city.
This application is made by using Delphi 7.0 programming terms and by
using the cities in the map of Java Island. The distance of one city to another
city is inserted by the user. The simulation final result is the shortest path
feature of the origin city to the destination city, the distance, the iteration
matrix and the surpassed cities.

Measurement mostly required a precision, accuracy, and sensitivity.
Measurement by using the analog barometer often shows inaccurate
measurement, because lot of error factors that influencing the measurement.
To reduce the error factors, the barometer is made digitally.
Digital barometer based on microcontroller AT89S53 is a measuring device
that are designed to measure atmospheric pressure. This measuring
instrument can be realized by using the atmospheric pressure sensor type
MPX4100, voltage divider circuit, ADC 16 bits type AD7715 with serial
control, microcontroller AT89S53, and LCD.
The place for retrieving atmospheric pressure data are selected randomly.
From the result of testing and analyzing, this device can produce
measurement of atmospheric pressure with average level of measurement
error 1,8%, average values level of measurement accuracy are equal to
99,985%, and theaverage of deviation ± 0,4 hPa at interval 617,4 hPa - 689,8
hPa.

                                   Abstract
                                        
The purpose of this paper is to provide an overview for custom instruction in
the NIOS II soft-processor. The custom instruction is a special logic block
(hardware) that could be added into the NIOS II ALU. This unique custom
instruction feature of NIOS II processors could be used to speed-up the
algorithms execution, while reducing the size and complexity of software. This
feature implements some part or entire algorithm in hardware and making it
accessible to software through specially generated C software macros or
inline assembly macros. This paper will use the custom instruction to execute
basic matrix multiplication algorithm using floating point number as the data.

Inverter is the DC to AC voltage converter. Inverter gives amenity in speed
control of AC motor. By using the sine pulse width modulation method, the
output voltage of inverter is to as close to sine wave. The single phase voltage
source inverter was design and implemented. Sine wave with variable
frequency 15Hz up to 50Hz compared to the triangular wave with frequency
of 2 kHz to get sine pulse width modulation signal. The AC input is rectified
through a diode bridge 30MB60A, and switch-mode DC to AC inverters
applies four quadrants chopper with MOSFET 2SK2611 switches. Frequency
appearance and rotation speed of motor is presented with 7-segmen LED.
Frequency Control of inverter is done by arranging sine wave frequency. The
frequency of the inverter is arranged from 25Hz up to 48Hz gets change of
rotation speed from 1470rpm up to 2870rpm, by using AC motor 220V/50Hz.

Water fountain are attracting, people like to see water fountain. Water falling
at convensional water fountain is not sequentially controlled. Water fountain
sequential controlled make water fountain more dynamic and attracting. This
research describes about designing and implementation for water fountain
controlled sequentially by micro controller. In this research, we investigate
characteristics of water valve and how to control those valve to make
sequentially control water fountain. We use the AVR ATmega32 micro
controller to control sequence order and solid state relay to drive the water
valve. Water valve can operate close and open witht 10 cycles per second.

The goal af this research is to make the controler model of temperature room
based on fuzzy logic controler. The fuzzy logic controler that uses three
membership is applied with AVR microcontroler ATMega8535 series. The
controler can control temperature room between 20°C-32.7°C with 4.42% -
9.03% steady state error and 11.06% - 32.5% overshoot. The measurement
data is showed as temperature vs time graphic. The result of this research is
still not satisfied so it needs more future research.

                                  Abstract

All vaccines should be maintained at +2.0°C to +8.0°C. Biological products
can be inactivated by exposure to excess heat or to freezing, depending on the
nature of the product, the temperature reached and the duration of exposure.
Damage from successive exposures to adverse conditions is cumulative. If the
fridge temperature is outside the +2.0°C to +8.0°C range, the vaccines may
not be effective in preventing disease.
For reduce the possibility to make the vaccines damage, the temperature of
the vaccine should be monitored. With wireless communication, the result of
monitoring process can be accept in real time. So that, the condition of the
vaccine can be known as soon as possible.

                                    Abstract

In this paper, neuro-fuzzy learning algorithm will be implemented for tuning
fuzzy rules to solve trajectory control problem. To implement this algorithm,
the initial values of all weights corresponding to the fuzzy rules are given.
From training input-output data to fuzzy system, the objective function is
evaluated to minimize error. Then, based on gradient descent, the algorithm
updates the parameter of the center and the width of membership functions, the
weights and the fuzzy rules. Using this algorithm, tuning parameter in the fuzzy
rules can be learned without changing the fuzzy rule table form used in usual
fuzzy applications. Simulation result demonstrates the feasibility of neuro-fuzzy
algorithm for tuning fuzzy rules on the trajectory tracking of a mobile robot.

microcontroller. The interface unit use several processing circuit such as

main processing which is produced by interface circuit. This project
espiciallly just have function to show heart signal and heart of human body in
LCD. The result of this appliance is heart rate which is show in LCD and
heart rate value in boundary of range 60-100 bpm

As a vital organ, heart have an important function to arranging circulation of
blood. Without healthy heart, balance and health of body will annoyed. This
paper purpose a system for heart beat measurement and heart beat
monitoring. Sound of heart beat collected by a sthetoscope. Then, the sound
converted by an microphone to a electrical signal. The result signal from
microphone is too small so it’s need to amplified. Yielded signal still mixed by
noise, so to become original signal have to be locked out of noise by an filter.
Microcontroler provide an internal Analog to Digital converter to converting
the analog signal to digital discrete. The result from the ADC transmitted to
another data processor using an RF modem. Microcontroller also used for
data processing and controlling the RF modem. The result are shown on an
LCD display.

Water fountain usually used as decoration to attract people. Water fountain
give cool and fresh effect for room environment. Water Fountain added with
melody and sequence control for open-close valve make water fountain more
dynamic and attraction. This research discussed about melody generator and
sequence control for water fountain.
Melody consist of tones and duration. Tones represent the fix frequency and
duration depend on song tempo. The equipment generate the tones by sine
wave generator based on AVR micro controller. The sine wave produced by
sequence of 64 numbers represent sampled sine wave function for one period.
Reciprocal of total period for single waveform represent the frequency.
The results are controller able to generate sine wave with frequency accuracy
less then 0.03 % error and able to generate G3 up to D6 Tones.

heart beat data processing in medical center is more optimal. Heart beat data
in this program is presented on waveform. This research was did to make the
medical record that always done by oscilloscope. Because of oscilloscope
operational are very difficult, complex and expensive, a medical center in a
small town can not serve the heart beat monitoring facility. So, this
research’s. purpose is make the heart beat monitoring facility can be serve in
every location easily.
This program is design on Visual Basic. Inputs of this program are digital
stethoscope and heart beat detector with light method. The choosing of heart
beat detector is did by the user. So, in this system is used full duplex
communication. That communications are serial and wireless.

Signal transmitting through transmission media will change the shape of the
signal at the receiver. The change is a noise that has to be reduced as much as
possible to minimize the effects. The change is random and depending on the
character of the transmission channel.
Basically, QPSK modulation arranges signal phase to differentiate the symbol
transmitted. However, the transmitting has also noise that increases the bit
error rate (BER)
At the QPSK receiver, the phase differences of the symbols are presented as
amplitude differences. Based on this, adding a power control to the
transmitter can compensate the signal change caused by the transmitting.

                                   Abstract

Nowadays cellular mobile communication system has been well developed not
only in its technology but also in the amount of its user. It happens because
cellular technology has high mobility and larger coverage comparing with
conventional communication system. However, cellular system has a problem
such as the presence of cochannel interference because of frequency reuse
application. One of the measurement to control cochannel interference is
outage probability.
Most of outage probability computation in microcell system is investigated for
Rician/Rayleigh channel fading model, because it is appropriate with
cochannel interference characteristic in microcell system. In this research,
outage probability computation is investigated for Nakagami/Nakagami
channel fading model as an alternative model in microcell system. The
interferers are under assumption of independent identical distributed (IID).
The computation results show that outage probability performance increases
for higher fading parameter of desired signal, mD , and fading parameter of
interference signal, mI. Outage probability performance decreases for lower
number of interferer signal, N I , SIR protection ratio, λth and SNR threshold,
sth.

                                  Abstract

The increasing demand of modern digital systems to process data at more
than one sampling rate has lead to the development of a new sub – area in
digital signal processing (DSP) known as multirate processing. Simulation
program simulates the steps of multirate signal processing, from
determination of Low Pass Filter (LPF) specification, calculation of filter
coefficient, the number of MPS (multiplication persecond) and TSR (total
storage requirement). Program calculates filter coefficient using Optimal
method. User can choose decimation or interpolation process when running
the program. This simulation program uses input signal with *.wav extension.
Input signal will be processed for one side only (mono). The value of MPS and
TSR will be different at every stage and determined by sampling frequency
value at each stage.
Simulation program for multirate signal processing have been observed and
tested. The performance of multirate signal processing is observed from
output and input signal transformation and the difference of output and input
signal voice. This program has performed the simulation for decimation and
interpolation process succesfully.

Remote detection or known as Radar, commonly use in airport for air traffic
control that cover detection of height, velocity and range from the airplane. In
velocity detection of airplane, airport applies Doppler shift principle. Doppler
effect occur when target is moving toward to the observer who will receive
higher frequency and viceversa. Frequency received by radar from target
reflection is resulted by adding carrier frequency that was transmitted and
Doppler frequency. Simulation program of velocity processing of airplane
with Doppler shift is designed to understand the airplane velocity.
This program will transmit pulse signal and display the waveform according
to the user’s specification input, which are Frequency Band, Carrier
Frequency, Pulse Width, Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF), and displacement
of target position on axes. This program calculates time travel, target velocity
and Doppler frequency. To understand the target velocity and Doppler
frequency, program will take the target position of user’s choice and the next
position of the target.
Simulation program has been worked well. The program's performance is
determined based on the relation between program’s inputs and the velocity
as an output. The simulation result is theoretically true. Program is equipped
with necesarry menus and all of radar parameters can be simulated
sistematically.

                                   Abstract

Radar (Radio Detection and Ranging) is a system that uses electromagnetic
waves to detect the range and speed of objects in the land and in the air.
Radar system uses chirp signal to know the range of an object. A chirp is a
signal that has an increasing or decreasing frequency as a function of time.
The purpose of this simulation program is to generate chirp signal to find the
range an unmoved object in radar.
The program will calculate the time bandwidth product, oversampling factor,
and sampling frequency parameter. The chirp signal has to be represented in
a discrete time signal. The chirp signal shifting (echo) will have noise effect.
Matched filter will eliminate this noise by convolution of chirp and echo
signal. The matched filter output signals will be correlated to know the time
delay and the range of an object.
The simulation program succeeded to find object’s range. The simulation
result is theoretically true. Program is equipped with necesarry menus and all
of radar parameters can be simulated sistematically.

                                 Abstract

This paper present Wireless LAN indoor coverage prediction area using
Artificial Neural Network (ANN). Coverage area which meant is received
signal level. By measurement campaign, that was conducted by using WLAN
Card as a Client Receiver, could provided received signal level sample for
training process of ANN. Furthermore, another received signal level could be
predicted by trained ANN. Predicted received signal level compared with
the result of the field measurement and Simulation Software, Radio
Propagation Software (RPS v5.3). The result is this ANN can provide
correlation 0.961 between predicted value and field measurement value. As
comparison with RPS v5.3 software, prediction and measurement value is
little bit error presentation.

Paper ini mengusulkan sebuah teknik baru untuk mengisolasi sinyal ECG dari
rekaman sinyal EMG 4 kanal menggunakan Independent Component Analysis
(ICA)jika diberikan sebuah sinyal referensi. Pertama kali, algoritma ICA
standard diaplikasikan pada rekaman EMG. Salah satu dari sinyal
independen yang dihasilkan di sini adalah sinyal EKG yang tercampur noise.
Sinyal EKG ini diberihkan dari noise dengan menggunakan wavelet denoising
dan digunakan sebagai sinyal referensi. Sinyal referensi ini dan sinyal dari
tiap kanal dari rekaman EMG digunakan sebagai input dari algoritma ICA
standard. Hasil akhir dari proses ini adalah sinyal EMG yang tidak
mengandung sinyal ECG sama sekali.

                                 Abstract

In the field of handwritten word recognition, word segmentation problem has
been exist for a long time. This segmentation problem especially arise when
dealing with cursive handwritten word. This paper will discuss an approcah
in word segmentation caled over-segmentation by using FIR low-pass filter.
Based on the experiment result showed that, FIR low-pass filter which have
12 points in length and 0.2 in normalized cut-off frequency can be used
effectively for this kind of segmentation. That FIR low-pass filter was
designed using frequency sampling that making use of Hamming window.

                                   Abstract

Orthogonal codes is a waveform coding for channel coding that deals with
transforming waveforms into “better waveform”, to make the detection
process less subject to errors. This paper will simulate encoding and decoding
orthogonal code 8-bit with MATLAB.
The encoding procedure endeavors to make each of the waveforms in the
coded signal set as unlike as possible. The goal is to render the cross-
correlation coefficient (zij ) as small as possible. Orthogonal codes 8-bit
constructed using Hadamard matrix H7. The decoding procedure, first is
error detection and second is error correction. Error detected from zij value.
If zij = 0 or 1 the receive word is absence of noise, otherwise the receive word
may be perturbed by noise. Error correction uses maximum likelihood
algorithm.
This encoder simulation program can construct a codeword set H8, with this
set, input 8 bit will transform to codeword 256 bit. Decoder simulation
program able detect 127 bit error and correct 63 bit error.

This paper is report of research with title the system of automatic passenger
ticket identification. This system contains five uniques that are barcode
generator, barcode reader, data processing, gate driver, and seat number
display.
The system can operate well, besides data processing unique is still error on
data transmission serially. However, its simulation data processing is no
error. A ticket is made barcode 128 completely that is contained passenger
identity as date, month, year, ID bus, and seat number. The error ticket
printing is 6%, but it still can read by barcode reader. A gate bus sensor is
no optimal work, because its distance from light source is almost receiving
maximum distant limit. However, the gate driver can open and close the gate
automatically. Its operating is well. A seat display unique can work very well,
so the passenger easy to known where is his seat. The LED that is as seat
number indicator is on blind until he sits down on his seat.

Free/Open-source software usage in GNU/Linux Operating System have been
unpopular at the campus especially lecturers and students who always used
certain software in proprietary OS for performing their activities. Due to
that, this paper present the implementation of Neural Network Simulators in
GNU/Linux with Mandriva Distribution kernel 2.6.22. Neural Network (NN)
Simulators used is SNNSv4.2 and JavaNNSv1.1. These presentation consist
of packet description, configuration and capability testing by case study. The
case study comprise learning process and validation process of WLAN
received signal level. The result is SNNSv4.2/JavaNNSv1.1 have some great
features which suit for beginner or even advanced student to know and
understand what Neural Network is. Furthermore, some features like XGUI
which wasn't existed in Neural Network Proprietary Software. However,
These Simulators have some disadvantage such as no input normalization
function .

                                  Abstract

Mini Weather Station technology provides many significant benefits for the
users and challenges everyone who is willing to develop this technology. Mini
weather will be used to give an easy access to relevant weather information.
This instrument especially provides the informations of rain-fall, raining-time
and real-time temperature.
In this research, mini weather station is designed in a model with
MC68HC908QB8 Freescale microcontroller as data collector and data
processor. Tipping-bucket model is used as the sensor of rain-fall level, LM35
is used as temperature sensor and DS1305 RTC is used to generate/real time
date and time. The collected data will be shown on the monitor by a program
written on Visual Basic.
Mini weather station works well with 1 millimeter of rain-fall accuracy and
0.85 percent of temperature measurement error average.

A novel active power factor correction method for power supplies with three-
phase front-end diode rectifiers is proposed and analyzed.               The
implementation of this method requires the use of an additional single switch
boost chopper. The combined front-end converter draws sinusoidal as
current from the ac source with nearly unity input power factor while
operating at a fixed switching frequency.
Moreover this paper shows that when the active input power factor
correction stage is also used to regulate the converter dc bus voltage, the
converter performance can improve substantially in comparison with the
conventional three-phase ac to dc converter. These improvement include
component        count reduction, simplified input synchronization logic
requirements, and smaller reactive components. Finally selected theoretical
results are verified experimentally.

Jaringan nirkabel ad-hoc terbentuk dari terminal user yang secara bebas
dapat bergerak tanpa memerlukan sebuah infrastrtuktur komunikasi yang
tetap seperti pemancar tetap. Jaringan ad-hoc mempunyai banyak kelebihan
dibandingkan jenis komunikasi yang berbasis pada infrastruktur tetap
misalnya jaringan telepon selular. Keuntungan dari implementasi jaringan
nirkabel ad-hoc misalnya dapat mengurangi biaya operasi pemancar tetap
dan handal pada saat semua infrastruktur rusak dikarenakan bencana alam
ataupun perang. Meskipun keuntungan dari jaringan nirkabel ad-hoc sangat
menjanjikan, tapi pada kenyataannya jaringan ini jauh dari implemantasi
yang nyata. Pada paper ini disajikan pendekatan model dari jaringan
nirkabel ad-hoc dengan berbagai teori graph yang ada, antara lain random
graph, lattice graph dan geometric random graph. Tentang bagaimana
tingkat akurasi dari berbagai teori graph yang ada dibahas secara
mendalam. Aspek perambatan sinyal radio juga dibahas untuk mendapatkan
model jaringan nirkabel ad-hoc yang tepat untuk studi berikutnya. Pada akhir
pembahasan, disajikan pendekatan log-normalgeometric random graph
sebagai model yang mempunyai tingkat akurasi yang cukup baik untuk
memodelkan jaringan nirkabel ad-hoc.

An objective in developing a database is to enable many users to access
shared data concurrently and to maintain consistencies. The lost update
problem, the uncommitted dependency problem and the inconsistent analysis
problem are examples of potential problem caused by concurrency. MySQL
database supports transaction management to maintain consistencies. This
paper proposes the techniques to prevent the three potential problem using
transaction management supported by MySQL innodb database. Two-phase
locking (2PL) will be used to implement the techniques. It uses serializable
isolation level in MySQL innodb database with autocommit is set to disable
and exclusive locking should be acquired on an item when a transaction read
the item then update it.

                                 Abstract

The research discusses about SAMOP reactor tube’s design and its
development. SAMOP stands for Sub Critical Assembly for Mo99 Production.
The aim of reactor tube is to produce radioactive isotopes where the neutron
inducts uranium nitrat of this tube in fission way.
The material of SAMOP reactor tube is made of stainless steel. The
calculation of tube’s life time is calculated based on American Petroleum
Institute (API)5 530, 1998. The development of tube also follows Europe tube
welding standard, EN 288 (welding stainless steel).
SAMOP reactor tube is verified using bubble test. This verification is done
based on American Standard for Testing and Material number A 1047/A
1047M.

The aim of this research is to know the reduction of noise efficiency due to
effects of frequency, dimension and arrangement of the elements of noise
barrier. Knowing that effects can be used to reduce noise traffic. The research
was done experimentally using a noise barrier that consists of elements with 4
types different width. The noise damper is arranged in 2 types of
arrangement. First, the elements are placed with 5 centimeters gap. Secondly,
the elements are placed in such way so the have a uniform cross section area.
In the first way, frequency and width of element give a significant effect to the
reduction of noise efficiency. The reduction of noice efficiency increases when
frequency or width of element is increased. In the second way, only the
frequency gives a significant effect. At low frequency, the efficiency increases
when the width of element is enlarged. However at high frequency, the
relation changes, the efficiency reduces when the width of element is
enlarged.

                                  Abstract

The role of metal mold (dies) for aluminum alloy component otomotive
production with high pressure die casting or gravity die casting is very
important. Around 25-35% of component/ part production cost come from
cost of material and dies making. The objective of this research are to
develope and to make material dies type SKD 61 (alloy steel Fe-C-Cr-Mo
and V) using net shape metal casting route. The test samples have been done
anealling process 850 0C for 1 hours, hardening process between 990 and
1050 0C for 1 hours, air quenching and tempering process at temperature
200, 300, 500, 550 and 600 0C during 1 hours. The hardness, toughness value
and microstructure of these samples will be tested and investigated. The
obtained mechanical properties will be compared with the properties of
imported material SKD 61. The research results show that there are the
difference of mechanical properties value (hardness and toughness) between
developed and imported material SKD 61 for all of heat treatment condition.
This is caused by the forming of microporosity, inclusion in form of non
metallic inclusion in developed material dies SKD 61. By means of good and
selective material selection of raw material, better degassing technik,
slagging process and using of filter, improvement of casting design and better
of standard operation procedure of heat treatment will be expected that the
difference of mechanical properties value can be reduced.

                                   Abstract

Belt conveyor supporter was designed with selected material and feasibility
safety of loads. Following element type catalog in finite element analysis, belt
conveyor supporter consists of ‘space frame’ element where each nodal
element gathers it at three translations from forces and three rotations from
moments. Loads was taken from; heavy weight itself, wind force, and external
force. Force-moment frames are taken from SAP-2000-V9. Finite element
model has; 83 frames, 55 grids, and 5 elements in 12 critical locations were
selected to predict one of them with the real critical. Element number 69, with
compression stress 60.8 MPa and safety factor 5.09, is the most critical frame
from static load.

                                    Abstract
                                         
Nickel is the most important element in cast stainless steel making. Among the
other raw material, nickel price is highest, and it’s still imported. The purpose
of this research are to compare effect of using ferronickelchrom (Fe-Ni-Cr)
local to mechanical properties and microstructure CF8M (SS 316), compared
with using of imported pure nickel. Hopefully local raw material be able to
substitute imported pure nickel as raw material of the cast stainless steel.
Variable of this research are increasing Fe-Ni local percentage in cast raw
material amount 0 %, 23%, 45 %,and 79%. Each percentage processed in
foundry process and sample made for chemical composition test, tensile
strength test, hardness test and microstructure analysis using optical
microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), in order to compared
with cast stainless steel CF8M (SS 316). The result show that, all percentage
chemical composition appropriate with references standard CF8M (SS 316).
At 23 % and 45 % of Fe-Ni-Cr , mechanical properties and microstructure
are similar to 0 % (100 % pure nickel imported), tensile strength is 73.58 ksi
and hardness 140,46 HB. While for percentage of 79 %, have tensile strength
67.36 ksi, with hardness 135.73 HB, still below CF8M standard ( tensile
strength 70 ksi). Its caused the volume fraction of inclusion highest (4%)
founded in this percentage.

This paper presents the description and operation of a heat-powered thermal
water pump with water as the working fluid. A simple construction of
evaporator and condenser is employed to pump water ranging from 0,1–
0,3 l/minute depending upon the lift (1,030–1,710 m). Such a pumping system
could achieve efficiency of about 0.0154%.

                                   Abstract

The aerodynamics efficiency of aircraft wing is determined by coefficient of
lift and coefficient of drag. The value of aerodynamics efficiencyis used to
determined the dimensions of aircraft wing. The dimension of aircraft wing,
one of it is determined by aspect ratio, which is comparison for the square of
wing span (length of wing) by wing area. This writing goals is to compare the
aerodynamics efficiency which is resulted by the aircraft wing with there is
different in aspect ratio.
This experiment byoperating a low speed wind tunnel to measure the
aerodynamics forces areresulted by air flow arround the aircraft wing. That
are lift and drag.from the forces can be determined coefficient of lift and
coefficient of drag. Aerodynamics eficiency is determined by devide lift by
drag or in coefficient of lift by coefficient of drag. They are three models are
used in this experiment with different of aspect ratio.
From this experiment, the result is indicating that ever greaterly of aspect
ratio will give greater coefficient of lift and reduce coefficient of drag.
Thereby aerodynamics efficiency of wing with greater aspect ratio become
betterly.

                                  Abstract

Implantation of yttrium (Y) into FeAl alloys materials with the purpose to
investigate their effects on oxidations resistance has been done using 200
keV/2 mA PTAPB-BATAN ion implantor. The ion impantation process has
been done at energy of 100 keV and three varied of doses such as 2. 981 x
1015 ion/cm2, 2. 981 x 1015 ion/cm2, and 2. 981 x 1015 ion/cm2. Testing of
oxidation resistance for thermal cycling conditions for 6 cycling has been
done in furnace tube RTI/AGG. Volt/Amp : 220/45, Hertz : 50-60,
temperature max 1000°C type, introduced by oxygen gas with the flow rate
4,17 cc/minute, 8500C of temperature, 5 hours of exposure time and 17 hours
of cooling time. Changing of oxidation resistance has been done by weighing
the mass changing of the samples for each cycling for implanted and un-
implanted materials using analytical balance of GR Series 202, 0,1 mg of
minimum load, 210 gram of maximum load. It was also observed the
changing of microstructure, chemical compositions and crystal structure
using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) coupled with EDS (Energy
Dispersive X-Rays Spectroscopy) of JEOL JSM-35C type and X rays
Difractometer (XRD) of X-Ray Diffractometer Shimadzu E600                type
respectively. It was found that the implantation of yttrium ion is capable to
improve the oxidation resistance of FeAl materials. The optimum of yttrium
ion dose is in order of 2, 981 x 1015 ion/cm2.           From microstructure
observation, it was found that during thermal cycling oxidation the grain size
is growth, while from chemical composition analysis, it was found that at the
optimum ion dose the content of yttrium is in order 0,24 % mass. It was also
found the formed oxide compounds Y2O3 as a protective layer. The presence
of this compounds was also observed from XRD analysis that is shown by
(721) plane.

                                    Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of chemical treatment of
the coir fiber on the mechanical properties of fiber composite with epoxy
matrix. The chemical treatment done by soaking in sodium hydroxide solution
for one hour. The concentrations of sodium hydroxide are 2.5%, 5% and
7.5%. The fiber then soaking in the 5% potassium permanganate solutions
for ten minutes. Finally, the fiber is washing by warm water (50 Celsius
degree) for two hours.
The research shows that the ultimate strength of the fiber composite about 3.2
kg/mm2 which is soaking in the 5% sodium hydroxide. The chemical treatment
make no significant effect on the impact properties. The visual rupture shows
the brittle fracture

                                   Abstract

S45C steel is a medium carbon steel which contains carbon about 0,45%,
widely used to make tools and engine parts. Because of the insufficiencies
especial of its corrosion resistance, it is necessary to make a research raising
corrosion resistance instead of more expensive materials. This research aims
to know the effect of HCl concentration in HSB solution (HCl,NH3H2SO4)
used as media for corrosion process of steel plate S45C with flame hardening
of 950°C. Flame hardening is conducted by the flame of acetylene welding
when the color of the flame is yellow. After flame hardening, the steel plate is
dyed in water media. Corrosion rate is done with losing weight method in
HSB media, with various HCl solutions of 1 %, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%, mixed
with NH3 of 2,5% and H2SO4 of 1% in every solution. The test is testing in
stretch, toughness, micro structure and corrosion. Result shows that stretch
strength raised after flame hardening process by 64.01 kg/mm2. The rate of
the surface toughness raised by 93.71 km/mm2 maximum. After flame
hardening process martensit phase (part) in micro structure is dominant to
ferit and perlit phase (part), the shape and the size of the martensit part is
large and regular, so the rate of the corrosion in the steel plate without flame
hardening process is higher compared to with flame hardening process. The
highest corrosion rate occurs in steel plate without after flame hardening by
182,83 mm/year in the HCl solution of 1 % whereas the lowest corrosion rate
of steel plate with flame hardening process in HCl solution of 5 % is 39,02
mm/year. But it is categorized as not recommended corrosion resistance.
Based on results, the property of steel S45C increase by flame hardening
process in order can be widely applied.

                                   Abstract

Boundary layer handles an important role in determining aircraft
performance namely determining drag also determining value of cl,max or the
maximum of lift force coefficient. By having a value of cl,max so it can
determine aircraft stall speed.
Control equation for boundary layer - Navier Stokes equation is very general
and very complex. However, when the equation is limited to a such case of
laminer boundary layer on a flat plate, therefore the control equation become
simpler and well known as a Blasius equation.
Blasius equation is third order non-linier ordinary differential equation. This
research aims at obtaining numerical solution of Blasius Equation use for the
fourth order Runge-Kutta method. The language programming which is
applies in this research is Matlab V6.5. By using sets of equipment, the
simulation can be made by showing the very impressive graphics so that it can
give a better comprehensive understanding for whoever who wants to study
and to develop this method.

                                  Abstract

Cutting temperature and heat generated at the tool-chip interface during high
speed machining of metals have been recognized as major factors that
influence tool performance and workpiece geometry or properties. This paper
deals with an experimental investigation of cutting temperature in turning
AISI 1018 and AISI 1080 carbon steel with cutting speeds 0.5 - 4 m/s, feed
rate 0,4 mm, depth of cut 1,25 mm and machining time 5 minutes.
Experiments based on measuring work temperature for uncoated and coated
sintered carbide inserts using different coating materials such as TiC, TiN,
ZrN and TiN+ZrN. Thermocouple put in the contact zone between the tool
and workpiece used to measure the cutting temperature and verified with a
pyrometer. Effects of cutting parameters on the temperature profile for
uncoated and coated tool inserts were determined. Results showed that in
general coated carbide tool will reduce the cutting temperature especially
using carbide insert with TiN+ZrN layer. The influence of the type of coating
on the temperature in the contact zone also showed that the TiN+ZrN coating
layer has the best effect on the temperature decreasing in turning AISI 1080
steel.

                                  Abstract

People who live far away from the water source have a problem to get
water. Usualy they use centrifugal pump to pumping the water to their
house. Using this pump need electricity, but some times they have problem
with electricity. Hydraulic ramp pump is the solution because it doesn’t need
electricity or fuel. Hydraulic ramp pump can works continously 24
hours/day. Hydraulic ramp pump is cheaper and esay to build.
These experiment has done to know the performance of the hydraulic ramp
pump using the weight of waste valve variations and the head input. The
hydraulic ramp pump use on these experiment has 1,5 inch inlet pipe and
0,5 inch outlet pipe. The variations of the waste valve weight are 410 g,
450 g, 490 g, 540 g, 580g and 630 g.
These experiment show that the maximum flow capacity, the maximum head
discard and the maximum efficiency get when the weight of the waste valve
is 410 g. The maximum flow capacity is 11,146 × 10-5 m³/s, the maximum
head discard is 7,378 m and the maximum efficiency is 16,302%.

                                 Abstract

This paper presents the description and operation of a solar powered
thermoelectric generator with water cooler. Thermoelectric is placed between
cooler and heater with parallel and series-parallel arrangement. A
thermoelectric generator could achieve efficiency of about 0.2368%.
The study shows that depending on the arrangement and operating
conditions, it is possible to generate power as much as 0,7158 watt

                                  Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to develop control algorithm based on sliding
mode control scheme for servo-pneumatic system. Position control is
investigated to enhance the capability and performance of the system.
Because of the highly nonlinear basic equation system, the simulation of this
servo-pneumatic modeling is excluded from this paper. These sliding mode
controller implementation responses then compared with PID controller
responses. Finally, a series of experiments are carried out and the
experimental results prove that sliding mode controller is superior to the PID
controller.

                                   Abstract

This paper presents the design of distance measurements using ultrasonic and
infrared and its application to an instrumentation technique course. The goal
of this design is to construct a low price education tool that could stimulate
student interest to investigate deeply the work of ultrasonic and infrared
distance measurement along with the data processing and communication to a
PC via an RS-232 serial link. As a processing device, PIC16F877A
microcontroller was selected because of the easy programming and having
abundant resources. A PC with LabView software was selected as a display
device due to the user friendly interface. Finally, StampPlot software was
chosen as it is free software for plotting and can be fully configurable from a
microcontroller.
