I am in Australia and I am due to depart soon. Can I claim for cancellation or
postponement expenses?

SCTI would not consider a claim under Section 2, Cancellation or Postponement as
the airlines are now departing. It would be considered your disinclination to travel and
no cover provided if you chose to cancel or postpone.

I am in Australia and my flight is now departing. I don’t want to travel anymore,
can I claim for the cancellation of my journey?

I have not yet departed Australia and I still want to travel, will I be covered if
another Volcanic Ash Cloud occurs?

If you purchased your insurance prior to the 23rd April 2010, and whilst you are
overseas another eruption/ash cloud occurs from Eyjafjallajokull, disrupting your
flights, we would consider this to be unexpected. Therefore there would be provision
to claim for any expenses you may incur. You must however, contact your travel
agent or airline/s and apply for refunds in the first instance.

If your policy was purchased from the 24th April 2010 onwards, any claims that you
may incur are not considered to be unexpected, as Eyjafjallajokull has been
continuously erupting.

I am overseas when the Volcanic Ash Cloud occurred. What can I claim for
under the policy?

If you purchased your insurance prior to the 15th April 2010 and you are overseas,
and your Planned Journey has been affected, you are entitled to claim for reasonable
unexpected additional expenses. This is such things as date change of flights
(providing you have not been offered an alternative flight by your original carrier),
accommodation and food, under Section 2, Cancellation & Changes to your Planned
Journey.

You must contact your travel agent or airline/s and apply for refunds in the first
instance.   Please submit your claim with all supporting documentation for
consideration. If your claim is accepted, an excess will be deducted from the paid
amount.

My insurance has expired and I am still stuck overseas, am I covered? Or do I
need to purchase more insurance?

If your travel insurance policy was due to expire, or has expired, and you are still
overseas and can not return because of the Volcanic Ash Cloud, please be assured
that there is automatic extension of your insurance. This means that you will not
need to contact us to purchase this, as it is automatically extended due to
unexpected circumstances. Upon claiming, please provide confirmation of original
flight itineraries, and changed/updated flight itineraries.

I have been delayed returning to Australia due to the Volcanic Ash cloud from
Eyjafjallajokull. I have not been able to return to work. Can I claim for the loss
of my income?

There is no provision to claim for loss of income due to the delay of flights. Under
SCTI’s policy, you are able to claim for Loss of Income if you have suffered an injury.
Please check your policy wording for full terms and conditions.
