					                        THEATER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
                                  SUMMER 2010

                             MAINSTAGE: The Hound of the Baskervilles
Central Square Theater seeks Interns for its summertime production of the farce The Hound of the
Baskervilles, gaining hands-on experience in professional theater. Directed by Tommy Derrah, runs July
22 – August 22, 5 performances/week.
Assistant Stage Manager: Serve as the production assistant to the Equity Stage Manager for all rehearsals
(beginning June 29) and performances of The Hound of the Baskervilles.
Stagehands: Attend technical rehearsals and serve as a stagehand for each performance under the
supervision of Stage Management and the Lead Dresser. 3 positions available.
Sound Board Operator: Attend technical rehearsals and run sound for each performance under the
supervision of the Equity Stage Manager.
Details: 15-40 hours weekly, depending on the position. Night and weekend hours are required.
This is an unpaid internship. Academic credit can be awarded based on school guidelines. Hours may
vary for interns receiving academic credit.

                                              EDUCATION
Underground Railway Theater (URT) seeks Interns for its summer Education Programs at the
organization’s home, Central Square Theater in Cambridge.
Summer Programs include:
--The Actor's Toolbox, performance training camps for young people ages 8-12 to build skills around
rehearsing and performing a short play as part of an ensemble.
-- Youth Underground, an intensive performance training program for Cambridge Teens to develop new
work that engages with their community.
-- Young Astronomy Apprenticeship in partnership with MIT, creating new plays that explore astronomy.
Education Interns will work with URT’s Education Director, Education Program Manager and Teaching
Artist Team on these and other projects. Internships provide the opportunity to experience first-hand the
day-to-day operations of an award-winning theater company’s education department.
Details: 20-30 hours weekly, based on program hours.

                                    ARTISTIC: DRAMATURGY
Dramaturgy Interns will work with the artistic team to conduct research, create supporting materials,
document the production process, and design and implement special programming for the resident
companies’ mainstage productions, gaining hands-on experience in professional theater.
Details: 10+ hours per week, determined per project.

                                  PRODUCTION: COSTUME SHOP
Central Square Theater seeks an intern to assist the Production Manager in organizing and cataloguing the
costume inventory and developing a system for tracking costume stock.
Details: Flexible 10-20 hours/week.
Work will involve some physical labor. Applicants should be able to lift 50lbs and work on a 6-foot
ladder.

                                          ADMINISTRATIVE
Central Square Theater seeks Interns for a variety of administrative positions during the summer and
academic year.
Administrative Internships: Interns will assist with the day-to-day operations of Central Square Theater
and resident companies Underground Railway Theater and The Nora Theatre Company. Internships are
available in several departments including Artistic Administration, Development, and Community
Outreach.
Details: Hours vary by position and length of internship.
