Dear Teacher

2009 is the 10th Anniversary of Feile Naomh Brid. Being the 10th Anniversary, we are looking
forward to welcoming all teachers, parents and pupils to the Feile and we hope this will be a
memorable Feile Naomh Brid for us and you.


The Feile will be held at the beautiful 4 star Oriel House Hotel, Ballincollig, Co. Cork on the 14th
and 15th November.       As quite a lot of you will know, this is a very modern Hotel, renovated to
excellent standards a few years ago. It is a very bright and comfortable hotel with extremely
helpful and accommodating personnel. Ballincollig is on the west suburbs of Cork City with a
newly built Shopping Centre and a few miles from the City Centre itself, it is approximately 6 miles
from Cork International Airport.

                                                            RULES
    1.   Age taken as at the 1st January 2009.
    2.   Entries accepted only from teachers registered with An Comisiúin Le Rincí Gaelacha.
    3.   Adjudicator’s decision is final.
    4.   Objections in writing accepted from registered teachers only within one hour of the completion of the
         competition with a fee of €20.00.
    5. Any form of unauthorized photography which has the capability to capture a dancer’s image whilst in
         motion, using electronic or manual means e.g. mobile phone, standard camera, video camcorder, cine
         recorder commercial film, with or without flash enhancement, is expressly forbidden in competitions.
    6. At all times dancers must be properly attired. Dancers (if possible) should not change costume in the main
         dancing hall.
    7. The Féile Committee will not accept responsibility for personal injury or articles lost at the Féile.
    8. The Féile Committee will as far as practicable provide stage surfaces suitable for Irish Dancing. However,
         the Féile Committee cannot accept liability whatsoever for any injuries sustained while on stage. The
         lodgment of an entry will be deemed to be an acceptance of this provision by the dancer, parent or
         guardian.
    9. Bun and Tus Competitions are confined to Munster only.
    10. Meán Grád competitions are open to all regions.
    11. No blocks, En Pointe stationary or moving are allowed for all ages up to and including under 12 age group
         with the exception of the 11-12 age group who may perform this working as and from the 1st September
         2009.
    12. A competition in which there are five competitors or less shall not count for grading purposes i.e. the
         winner of such a competition shall be entitled to dance again in a competition for the same dance in the
         same age group and grade, this rule includes the Ard Grade Solo competitions.
    13. Effective from the 1st January 2009 for those competitions where grading occurs, the number of dancers
         that progress to the next grade is based on the number of competitors in the competition:-
               Less than or equal to 20 competitors                1 dancer will progress to next grade
               Between 21 – 39 competitors                         2 dancers will progress to next grade
               Greater than or equal to 40 competitors             3 dancers will progress to next grade
    14. Costume rule: All girl competitors in all Bun, Tus Grád and under 5 competitions must wear either their
         class costume or day dress and all boys must wear their class costume or shirt and pants.
    15. The use of make-up is not permitted in Bun and Tus Grád competitions up to and including the under 12
         age group
    16. The use of artificial carriage aids is strictly forbidden. Medically prescribed apparatus, proof of which may
         be required, (Doctors Certificate) will be exempt from this ruling.
    17. PLEASE NOTE: The Committee is responsible to the Hotel Management in relation to the premises and
         all persons and participants attending the Féile venue are requested to take note and comply with all
         notices, announcements and Stewards and hotel staff instructions.
                                                         GRADES
Bun Grad; Every Bun-grad competition shall be confined to competitors who have never previously won first
place for the dance specified, for that competition, in any other registered competition or under any age limit.
Dancers must perform basic material only.
Tus Grad; Every Tus-grad competition shall be confined to competitors who have never previously won first
place, for the dance specified, for that competition, in any other registered competition or under any age limit, other
than in Bun Grad
Mean Grad; Every Mean-grad competition shall be confined to competitors who have never previously won first
place for the dance specified, for that competition, in any other registered competition, under the upper age-limit
specified for the competition (or under a higher age-limit) outside of Bun-grad and Tus-grad. Dancers must
perform their first advanced material. The same level of material can be performed for Mean-Grad and Ard-Grad
competitions
Ard Grad; An Ard-grad competition shall be open to any dancer who satisfies all the following qualifying
conditions;
    (a) is a pupil of a registered teacher
    (b) is qualified to compete as regards age and place of residence
    (c) is not suspended from competitions under any rule or by decision of An Coimisiun or of a Regional
         Authority
    (d) is entered with the permission of his/her teacher
    Where a dancer has won first prize and thereafter fails to win a prize for that particular dance, the teacher of
    that dancer may, when a period of 2 years has elapsed, apply to the regional council to have the dancer re-
    graded as a Mean-Grad dancer.
