"Title Museum Educator, Team Leader"
WORCESTER NATURAL HISTORY SOCIETY ECOTARIUM JOB DESCRIPTION Title: Museum Educator, Team Leader Department: Program Effective Date: Immediate Reports To: Deputy Director Status: Salary/Exempt. 4 day work week including Saturdays, with flexibility to occasionally work the alternate day, holiday or evening. Position Summary: The EcoTarium, A Museum of Science & Nature, seeks a dynamic and creative Educator to provide programmatic leadership for the development and implementation of museum programs, and as part of the team to develop, deliver and facilitate interpretive programs for the general public and school groups. Programming is on a variety of physical and natural science topics and includes interpretation of museum exhibits and outdoor programs on a 55-acre site. Teaching is through hands-on and inquiry-based methods encouraging exploration and self-directed learning. Candidates must have a degree in a scientific field or in education, enjoy working with families and children, and possess a keen interest in science and a commitment to furthering their own education in the field. The successful candidate will have experience working on a team and enjoy collaboration. Knowledge of physical science and/or experience in early childhood education desirable. Qualifications: • Bachelors degree (Masters preferred) in a scientific field , preferably physical science or in education • Minimum of 3-5 years experience teaching, developing and evaluating formal and informal education programs • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills • Comfort with performance [i.e. theater] and/or public speaking, a flair for public presentation • Experience working with diverse racial/socioeconomic populations • Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently • A team player with a leadership style that emphasizes team building • Supervisory and management experience expected • Candidate should enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, be flexible and highly dependable • Multi-lingual skills desirable • Must pass CORI and SORI background checks Responsibilities: • Provide leadership and vision to the program department • Design and implement inquiry based, participatory programs for visitors and groups • Lead school and public programs on a variety of science topics • Utilize hands-on participatory teaching methods • Include evaluation as a component of all program development • Provide an exceptional visitor experience through programs and informal contact with the public. • Hire, train and lead staff and volunteers within the department • Budget development, tracking and forecasting with program team • Assist with team members on the development of grant proposals • Foster partnerships within the community • Handle animals for use in programs • Organize and manage a yearly conference for middle school girls • Manage the operations of the seasonal Tree Canopy Walkway • Conduct programming outdoors in any type of weather and be in good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position.
