Report on the Community Chest 2009

Report of the Executive Director of Performance

Executive Member: Councillor Roger Styring, Deputy Leader

      Purpose of report

The purpose of this report is to provide the Area Committees with an account
of how the Community Chest was distributed in all three areas.

      That the report be noted.

The Community Chest Scheme was introduced with the first area panel
meetings taking place in June. It took three meetings in the North and South
East and five meetings in the West to completely allocate the budget of
      £50,000 apiece.

1. A number of the projects have now received match funding which may have
been assisted by the fact that they could demonstrate local authority support.
All applicants were encouraged to demonstrate some match funding and
generally, most applications did not receive the full amount of grant

2. In the table below, the total cost of the projects is listed, which determines the
leverage or match funding obtained. The number of applications to-date and
organisations funded are also listed below.

There have been a wide range of activities funded, from equipment for sports
clubs, arts and craft events, community festivals, village hall improvements,
ICT equipment, drums for pipe bands, mobility scooter, to a training simulator
for bell ringing. These projects have come up from the communities through a
variety of routes which includes forums and existing networks, and it has been
very useful to have this resource to fund projects that have been identified in
     this way.
